Just a quick enquiry.
I've got a few clothes I want to sell as I've lost a bit of weight.
I've never sold anything in eBay before, and just wondered, is it worth the hassle?

Re: Ebay
ebay itself isn't really a hassle.
I find the awkward bit is sorting out packaging and postage.
Especially as to have to say in advance how much it will cost.

Its the 99p Wall. Not what it was in the early days . Read up on all the hidden costs.
It is surprising how quickly clothes, shoes and toys can fill up house space.

Re: Ebay
I’ve sold lots on Ebay. Only one problem with an awkward buyer, who then got his money back.
When I moved house I had to sell £100s worth of books.
It’s no hassle once you get into it.
Make sure your description is accurate as to condition. Cuts out problems later.
You can add photos free, which is useful.
Fix a reasonable opening bid.
If you have a PayPal account, get paid that way, then there's no delay. You get paid right away.
I usually pack the items before any sale, then weigh, and check postage on the Post Office web site.
Once sold you can get the postage label printed together with buyer’s address; just print off and stick on the parcel.
You’ll get the bill for costs later.
Try just one simple sale to start with to see how it goes.

Ok,
I have just given a load of jumpers and jeans to a homeless charity.
It's just the designer gear I would rather sell!
I'll have a try and see how I go!

Re: Ebay
Its pretty simple but understand the charges.
One thing I do is wait for an ebay offer (and they do come quite often).
Things like 'Only pay 10% of your ebay charge' or sometimes completely free.
I had a bit of a disaster in my last ebay sale. I estimated they cost of what I was sending to be £5.
When I got to the post office it turned out to be £13 - It weighed 2.6 kg.
I really should have weighed it first.
And this was a sale where I only paid Paypal charge - had it been a normal sale I really would
have been crying.
But of all the things I've sold I've never had any problems.

Re: Ebay
For £13 I would have delivered it myself. I will pick up your next parcel.

Re: Ebay
Yeah I'd echo that. They have things like free listings day, or free listings but the starting price has to be 99p(which is fine for selling stuff that's not worth too much or has a good chance of being bidded up).berty wrote:Its pretty simple but understand the charges.

Make sure you don't get shafted on the postage. You used to be able to charge whatever you wanted for postage, so because you paid ebay a percentage of what you made(which didn't include postage) people used a loophole and sold the item for peanuts but added a massive postage charge. Or people charged something like a fiver for postage despite the cost of the envelope + the stamps being much lower, and trousered the rest. Ebay tightened up on all that though. For example I think for cd's/dvd's you're forced to offer free shipping??? So yeah, make sure you know about the necessary postage costs before listing anything.
Also, if the things you're selling have any damages/flaws, point them out in the ad and include photos. There are people who'll try and get a refund if there's any damage to the item (such as a slight scuff on a record sleeve) but if you point it out beforehand it'd be hoped that if there's a dispute ebay would be on your side.

Re: Ebay
Don't sell underpants on eBay.
Buyers can be very demanding - must be washed, no stains, blah blah blah.
As I told Doug - THEY'VE BEEN WORN FOR OVER TEN YEARS WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU EXPECT FOR 50 PENCE??!!

Re: Ebay
Indeed. A decent selection of err 'private' underwear on eBay if your thing.
Echo what others have said, Danabnormal. Selling is easy, know you postage prices and they have free/cheap listings days all the time. Though never sold clothes there, yes, note all marks, imperfections etc., and photo as some moaning cunts out there.
If designer stuff, put a reserve on it, minimum you would take and offering a 'buy it now' price sometimes helps quick sales.

Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.
