Im delighted to see that the US Election thread is closed. I've suggested that the same happens with the one about the EU referrendum since both matters are settled .
Some people are very upset indeed about the results of these votes, to the extent that they want to keep on and on and on about how unfair it all is that their side lost.
It's quite a new thing in free countries , but what they are effectively doing is protesting about democracy. Of course this is tiresome to everyone else , but I thought it might be an idea to provide them with a "Safe Area", where they could comfort each other and pretend that things had turned out differently .
This can only work, though, if no one interrupts or contradicts them.
Here is a place where they can step into a world where Killery is President, we've rejoined the EU and Tony Blair is still Prime Minister !
So, go on, sit back and start weaving a wonderful fantasy world without borders in which Jeremy Corbyn is on course for a landslide victory in the next General Election !

Not at all. I'm sorry if you felt triggered, but you shouldn't . It's a safe space for you, and I did say at the start that it wouldn't work if people argued with you or contradicted your opinions.Zambo wrote:It's been done to death, and threads like this just goad people you disagree with
Maybe I'm being too harsh though actually. If you think the thread where you can pontificate without opposition is another unfair manifestation of cruel reality, you should say that - you're probably right to protest.
I apologise if I seemed to challenge your opinions.

Well first you haven't challenged my opinions on the subject matter.Royal24s wrote:Not at all. I'm sorry if you felt triggered, but you shouldn't . Secondly, this is a blatantly goading thread, and as you don't think it is, I'm going to have to break it down for you
1. 'The Crying Room'. You have actually started a thread with the sole purpose of belittling those who disagree with you, and infer that because they disagree with you, they are in flood of tears, whining and bitching. You clearly believe your opinion is far superior to theirs, and in fact it appears that you don't think they should have one.
2. 'Some people are very upset indeed about the results of these votes, to the extent that they want to keep on and on and on about how unfair it all is that their side lost'. 'They want to keep on an on about it'. Well it would seem that as you have started a new thread you do as well.
3. 'but I thought it might be an idea to provide them with a "Safe Area", where they could comfort each other and pretend that things had turned out differently' . Wow, not goading eh!?
I guess there is always at least one on every internet forum, who thinks that they have been handed the tablets of stone, rubbishes all opinions that don't match there's, and generally posts in a superior manner, patronising and looking down at others on the way. You can deny that until you develop an eighth orifice, but that is how several people view you on here, and those who agree with you and don't need to open your eyes.
This is no grudge on my part because I agree with a good deal of what you say, it's just the way you say it that pisses me off. Maybe I have to start ignoring you to remove the irritation.

Agreeing with someone on political issues doesn't mean you can't disagree with them on other stuff. It's called having an open mind. Why should you support someone unconditionally, so you can forget the 'only matter of time' shite, it's got nothing to do with disagreeing on issues.PG30 wrote:Royal24s wrote:Not at all. It's a bit like the Mourinho situation. The blokes a total cunt, but there are people who back him, even worship him because they think he's successful.
Not for me beaky. If someone is behaving like a prick, I'll tel them whether I agree with them or not.

Re: The Crying Room
I felt physically sick on election night. Early on I had a sinking feeling and as the night wore on it got worse.
I was not a Hillary supporter but third party and would have been okay with a Clinton presidency. It would have been more of he same but Trump scared the crap out of me.
However he is now President, I live in the US and therefore i have to accept he is my President. But as time goes by I am quietly optimistic that Trump is going to be a more centrist President than anyone gave him credit for.
He is building his own cabinet and the rhetoric of the election seems to have gone. No stupid prosecution of Hillary, no removal of 11 million illegals, not a wall but a fence etc. etc. Granted the registry bothers me but if it's a registry for all immigrants from certain countries and not singling out a religion I can live with that.
In his 60 Minutes interview he finally looked and sounded Presidential. I know that sounds cheesy.
The more optimistic I get the more pissed off his more right wing supporters get.
Though I do wish he had dumped Bannon. He is an odious individual but I have to give him credit as he was one of the masterminds behind Trumps election.

Well yes, but this is supposed to be the thread where someone like Hillman can eulogise him as a great Statesman who won seven consecutive General Elections and kept us in the EU forever, and we don't argue with them . It's a kind of therapy.finchman wrote:Ed Milliband is a cunt.

I wonder whether the Trump supporters will cry or refuse to accept reality when Trump doesn't implement the headline policies he was elected on. I expect they'll deny reality or blame shift. People don't like to admit, even to themselves, that they've been duped. See the Tories & their pledges on immigration.

Not starting World War 3 is just code for letting Putin do exactly what he wants i.e. appeasement. That didn't work out too well last time we tried it.m4 colin wrote:Whatever he does or doesnt do will be better than that Harpy starting WWIII

In the event that anyone fails in their duty they will get criticised whoever they are.Ralph wrote:I wonder whether the Trump supporters will cry or refuse to accept reality when Trump doesn't implement the headline policies he was elected on. I supported David Cameroon in his first Election but when he turned his back on Britain I frequently called him what he was.
I can only speak for myself, but I'm not prone to seeing the truth through the prism of tribal politics and I judge a man by his deeds .
I do think though, Ralph, that it's a bit daft to get too angry about what you THINK MIGHT happen. Might I suggest at this stage, and given the fact that an election has gone in favour of Donald Trump, that it'd be better to wait to see what he actually does before going nuts and searching for dirt on anyone he's even thinking of appointing - including people he's probably not actually going to appoint but who the press have suggested he might.

My honest assessment is that Russia isn't the aggressor in this situation, but rather being punished for resisting globalism. Even if you accepted the somewhat warped version of Ukraine and Syria being spun by the State Broadcaster, I can't see that either issue is important enough to justify nuclear war.
It would be insane to suggest that Russia presents an agressive threat to Western Europe or the USA, so why do you think we need to repeat WW2 with nukes so urgently ?
I'm also interested why you think it's racist if the USA or Europe even have borders , but you're happy for millions to die to defend Ukraines border ?
Are there good borders and bad borders like there are good terrorists and bad terrorists ?
