Kids today

I was talking with the girl who cuts my tumbling tresses and she was telling me that her eldest daughter recently came out as gay. Her daughter is 14. She also told me that there were a number of kids in her class that were considering changing gender or were bi-sexual and in her words: "All kids today feel as though they need to have a label".

Is all this self-awareness good or bad? I can't help thinking it's bad. I'm not sure why I think this, it's just a gut instinct more than anything else. Considering changing your gender at 14? Fucking hell, that's nuts right?

Normality is still out there in the majority of kids. It may seem that there is a mass migration of kids demanding to be considered special, different, troubled, but as a father to a 14 year old lad and 11 year old girl, I can only say that almost all of their friends appear to be happy down to earth run of the mill, normal kids. Now the slow and continuous eroding of social etiquette and the rising sense of entitlement epitomised by reality TV and an out of control benefits system? That's a different argument.

Being 50 something I can remember kids in school at that age doing the same thing, the only difference is now they don't have to hide it and are almost encouraged to shout it out, not sure if that's a good or bad thing to be honest, the haters will still hate and the excepting amongst us will still except them.

Humans are a complex bunch. It's only now that we are no longer brushing it under the carpet as previous generations did, and other societies around the world still do.

Transgender people (as one example) have existed throughout human history but always on its fringes. Seldom mentioned, but frequently maligned. Tolerating them is not the same as fostering them and their lives on others.

People should not make gender changing decisions at such young ages however.

More because it has been a huge part of the social engineering job being done. Gaying up the youth and all that....

But anyhow.

All part of dumbing them down and degrading humanity - encouraging them to their own destruction.
It comes from one source ultimately

What nonsense.
First of all, homosexuality and transgender are entirely separate.
I don't think there has been one recorded case of anyone becoming gay because they heard about it at school.
Transgender is a recognised medical condition which becomes apparent during childhood, and there ARE recorded examples of suicide because they were afraid to speak about it.
People are what they are and all we are doing is offering people who already have problems the assurance that they will not be outcast for seeking help.
How ironic that two of the most negative posts come from people claiming to be christian.
Shame on you.

Given the repulsiveness of the typical 14yo boy, one can hardly blame her.

No. They're all out on a 3 day gender fluidity familiarisation course.

What does Christianity have to do with anything? Are there any religions which tolerate and/or endorse transgender individuals? Or is it simply down to the individual?

Probably more reforming and liberal sects and strands of some religions but I guess that the issue of transgender is evolving quickly across many societies across the world and is pretty dynamic.
