Italian reform referendum

Post by kevin04 »

Goes ahead today.

Renzi, the PM, wants to thin the Senate from 300 odd members to 100 -then make it up with council chiefs and mayors - which they say will free up about 500m Euros a year and create a stronger government rather than 50 odd governments they had in 60 years of democracy.

I believe Carcaidh has lived in Italy, maybe you can tell more about this or even the Italian system, or lovable Irish-Italian journo Paddy ''Platini was smoking his head off'' Agnew, if you're reaading... gee us a wee reply.

The No side are lead by a comedian apparently, and the PM has done a Dodo Camo and said he will resign if the referendum fails.

There is a 14 day ban on opinion polls before voting, but the last few had a No lead of about 3-4%.

The results are expected tomorrow.

Hoffer's conceded defeat. The Fascist Spring's still up for grabs.

tbh I've been living in Italy on and off for the past 3 years. Place is a fucking basket case. BUT very few people use credit cards or are in as much personal debt. Small businesses have been fucking raped by the local banks. The Bank of Siena for example, is pretty much bankrupt and if that fails there will be a domino effect. blah blah blah. I'm drinking and rambling. Sorry. Bottom line: You can buy a litre of wine for under a quid. Love it.

I'm sure the Italians were fed up to the back teeth of their country having nothing but Italians in it and were crying out for a mass influx of diverse cultures.

Visit Tuscany. It's full of pretentious rich British and American ex-pats. It's a fucking hell hole. I once did some gardening for Colin Firth. Nice bloke actually, but his hangers-on were utter cunts. I piss on their graves.

1. Too complex a question to put in a referendum
2. A loaded question
3. Why is a constitutional issue being put in front of the electorate?

How is not electing a neo Nazi letting anyone down? Why are the far/alt right so keen to unlearn lessons from history?

So it's a battle between the loonies & the sensible neo Nazis/fascists. I see.

The far right party this bloke leads was set up by a former minister in the Third Reich i.e. an actual Nazi - & people are disappointed he lost?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom ... of_Austria

A far right, authoritarian Austrian convincing lots of ordinary people to vote for him. What could possibly go wrong. It's not like there's any historical precedent.

If history has taught us one thing, it's that nothing could possibly go wrong electing a far right Austrian nazi into power.

I'd like to know why people here think it would be a good idea?

A Third World War and millions of deaths will really teach those lefty snowflakes a lesson

And free up all the jobs for the unemployed that are lucky enough to survive.
The only jobs will be agrarian, but it will be a long wait for the radiation to leave the soil so it can be farmed.

When people claim it's the fault of 'the left' they're voting or supporting (genuine) fascists & neo Nazis they're justifying to themselves & others doing something they know is appalling.

They're arguing they're not fully responsible for the way they vote/who they choose to support, which is obviously rubbish.

What a very strange presumptuous post.

Nick Cohen is surprisingly spot on.

'Left-wing thought has shifted towards movements it would once have denounced as racist, imperialist and fascistic. It is insupportable'

Have you got a link so we can see the context of that quote?

If he's blaming the liberal left for the current rise of right wing authoritarianism he needs to pull himself together.
