On another forum I occasionally use, one guy posted such a thread. It received hundreds of replies within a few hours, offers of help etc, and ultimately turned out to be a hoax.

Thus, I'd take any thread like that with a pinch of salt.

I don't entirely go with the "cry for help" theory.
If you had unendureable pain, whether physical or mental, and you knew for sure that it would all be over in 30 minutes, i think some people might well say goodbye. Why else would people leave suicide notes when the method they chose would be absolutely certain to end in their death?
