bit of a quandry
i want to send some money from a uk bank account to a canadian bank account
what is the best/cost effective way of going about this?
are there any other ways of getting uk money across without incurring mental charges

A relative did this recently and used gloabalwebpay (next day transfer), which I believe only charges a fixed amount for whatever the transfer value. Think they paid about £5

I guess the main issue is getting the exchange rate right, as it can make a significant difference. The fee from my bank is only £9, but it's that bloody exchange rate....and my worry about when to do it with the euro falling, oil falling etc, I have no idea how that relates to sterling vs CAD

Just spoke to them exchange rate was 1.75 GBP/CAD. Not sure if that's good or bad.

it's the disparity that gets me...i was told 1.75 and 1.84 when going the other way...if they are selling currency to you...
i wonder if it's worth flying home nd getting gold coins in denomination...is that a tax laibility?
