Vegetarianism

Post by Chris »

I stopped eating meat in January this year. Was never a big meat eater anyway and I don't miss it.

I've a Facebook friend who is pressurizing me to go vegan. Not sure about that.

Any fellow vegetarians?

Borderline. Good for you. Yeah, vegan is a step too-far. You have to wear sandals with socks for a start.

Yeah, veganism is, as you say, a step too far.

Becoming vegetarian is a personal choice. I love animals, sounds soft, but it's true. I feel better knowing I no longer contribute to the meat industry's profits.

Living a vegetarian life is actually quite easy.

Totally agree. Do you eat fish? Not sure I could give fish up.

Hell, no. Meat, poultry and fish all the way. The odd tin of peas, beans etc is fine but whole hog, if you'll pardon the pun, vegetarianism is just, well, meh.

Was vegetarian for about 8 years.
Pretty easy lifestyle to maintain as long as you don't go carb crazy.
I actually missed meat, so just started eating it again.
I wasn't veggie for ethical reasons. The ex Mrs Cat was a veggie, and I felt at the time it was a healthier choice for me.

The only fish I eat is tinned tuna and I feel guilty about it. That may sound ridiculous but it's true. I actually feel guilty about munching tuna sandwiches.

Might just quit the tuna too. Be easy to do, I suppose.

When you start eating supplements you know you are not on a balanced diet. Everything in moderation.

Agreed.

We have incisor teeth specifically for eating meat.

Not all of our teeth, warm:

The four front teeth in each arch are called incisors, and their function is to cut food with their sharp thin edges. On each side of the incisors, at the corners of the mouth, are the canines. These teeth have one cusp, or pointed edge, and are used for holding or grasping food, and are very strong, stable teeth. Behind the canines are the premolars, which are designed for holding food like the canines because they have cusps, but they also function to crush food. Sometimes these teeth are referred to as bicuspids, meaning two cusps, but this is not always accurate because some premolars may have three cusps. Therefore the term premolar is preferred. The teeth farthest back in the mouth are the molars. These teeth have broad chewing surfaces with four or five cusps, and are designed for grinding food. The incisors and canines are called anterior teeth, because they are located in the front of the mouth, while the premolars and molars are called posterior teeth because they are located in the back of the mouth

Incisors are for cutting up anything, canines are for catching live food as in meat, we don't have caninines lions do :-)

If you're content being a veggie, fair play to you.

I couldn't do it, though.
My previous job involved reviewing restaurants on a regular basis. I reviewed a few veggie places, and there wasn't a single dish I ate that couldn't have been improved with some meat or fish.

I love Indian veggie dishes, as they have the spices to work, but some veggie food is blandness personified.

(on a slight side issue, I get very fucked off with some militant veggies who are quite happy to tell me what a heartless bastard I am for eating meat, yet they're happy to buy leather handbags or wear leather shoes...)
