Details are sketchy, but slow-cooker-cooked veg better than simple boiling/steaming, apparently:

Nutrient Loss
With all cooking methods, there can be a breakdown in nutrients, although a few nutrients such as lycopene become more available with processing. The advantage of a slow cooker over other methods is that the foods are cooked at a relatively low heat for a longer time. This lower heat may not destroy as many nutrients as other methods such as steaming or boiling. Another benefit is that with slow cooker meals, the nutrients can often be recaptured when the resulting sauces or juices are served with the meal.

Actually I concede that it seems you are correct, my apologies.
I guess my mum must have just cooked everything for way too long, I know that when pressure cookers went out of fashion it was because at the time they were shown to be rubbish, nutrient wise. Perhaps things have changed with the technology and more research has been done into cooking times.

Fing is, I don't tend to like sloppy watery based food which is what most of these things seem to turn out like in my view. I'm more of a solid chunk of meat man myself.
That shoulder of pork I cooked was a solid chunk of meat.

Go and get another decent sized one, they're only about 30 quid in tesco, and then buy a specific cook book for slow cookers.
£30???
I have found a major benefit of living in a "Muslim" area, huge hunks of pork are always in the reduced fridge for between £6 and £10 because guess what? No fucker buys them :-)

£0 quid for the slow cooker - not a piece of pork

I wouldn't buy any meat from Tesco anyway - shite.
7 hours at 140 in a tray covered in foil with 1 cup of water, salt, pepper and sprinkled with chilli flakes, heaven...
Ahh got ya, I misread you, indeed you can get a slow cooker in tesco for £12 that works just as well as any ( I've had mine 3 years come Christmas) and as far as tesco meat being "shit" I disagree when it comes to slow cooking, the whole point of slow cooking is to make shit meat edible so no point in paying over the odds for quality :-)

I do my pork as I said in the oven to make " pulled pork", works for me.
That is true, it is a good way of making shit meat more edible, so a brilliant way of cooking if you're on a tight budget.

But in comparison to a butchers the meat in tesco (and sainsburys) is shit.

Everything I buy from the butchers comes out roughly the same size as when it goes in, however the amount of shrinkage you get with bacon, sausages and even chicken is scandalous.

And the meat from the butchers tastes a lot better too.

I can recommend 'The black farmer' sausages, very good.
Spoilt pig bacon is also tasty.

However I recently bought a slow cooker recipe book and am no cooking a shoulder of pork with whole grain mustard rubbed into the scores on the fat, cooking in garlic, cider and pork stock with a load of carrots and cooking apples thrown in.

The smell is driving me fucking crazy - but I've still got 5 hours until it's ready.

I guess for my next foray I'm just going to have to go out for the day.

Anything else that you would recommend?

How did the curried goat with rice and peas go down last night moonie?

Even better after a fat stonking spliff and a couple of Red Stripe no doubt. :D
