Help with maths

My brain is scrambled..

Is 51 ppm (parts per million) the same as 5.1 ppb (parts per billion)
Or is it 51,000 ppb?

Edit: found my senses and a calculator :-)

51ppm would equal one hundredth of 5.1 ppb .

Tesco Express are selling modified Stella cans, 4x440ml for £3.54. These are only 4.8% in strength.

How many cans of 500ml Kronenberg at £1 per can and 5% strength does the Tesco offer equal?

I once spent some time (whilst drinking) working out how many cans of 'non-alcoholic' lager (officially 0.05% in alcohol) you would need to get pissed in a standard 7pm-closing time session (say 4 hours for ease of maths).

So...if it takes me 8 pints of standard 4% lager and in 4 hours to be nicely drunk, that is a pint every 30 minutes. That means I would need 80 pints of 'non-alcoholic' lager every 30 minutes, or 1 pint every 22.5 seconds (not including toilet breaks, naturally).

Therefore I would need to drink 640 pints of 'non-alcoholic' lager in 4 hours in order to get drunk.

I know an old lady who swallowed a fly...

A Tesco can on its own will cost 0.885p (eighty eight pence happeny) and 1ml will cost 0.0020113p. So pro rata the 500ml can will be 500 times more , or £1.00565
To find the pro rata price at 5% it's £1.00565 /4.8 x 5 , which is £1.047552
so you'll need 1/1.047552 (0.955 cans of Kronenbourg to have drunk the equivalent value of a Tesco can)
But we should promote sensible drinking so you should drink the can of Kronenbourg (preferebly as a four pack) plus the other four Tesco cans as well .

Thanks, I always wonder about these differentials but you're saying both options are pretty much the same - I think. :?

I drink therefore I am. :drinkers:

Currently drinking 5.5% Warka lager at £1 per can. Which going by the above calculations is a pretty good deal.
