Went to the game, loved Cantello down the 'olbion.
Really looking forward to the documentary apart from that whining prick Chiles.
Not sure but I think big Cyrille organised it.

This sounds like a game right up my street. Then all matches are black and white as most things are.
Don't always believe what you think, because sometimes its' a load of shite

Missed that one but started watching the Baggies in 1977, when my dad took me. The start of a golden age for the club. Can't recall watching anyone with the sort of excitement that big Cyrille generated. Did you go to any of the European nights, fug?Fug1 wrote:Went to the game, loved Cantello down the 'olbion.

There was a black goalie in the 1980s for Man City. First name Alex. The End wrote:If it WERE to happen today.....

Yep, only at the Hawthorns though, my dad couldn't afford to go away.
Watched Galatassary, Valencia, missed Red Star and another team who I forget now, think it was Grasshoppers Zurich.
I was only young at the time but they are good memories. Went with my dad until the mid 80's and then with my pals, happy days.
Since we got into the Prem it's more like a chore to go than it is fun, it's like supporting a business rather than a football team. Oh well.
Went abroad with the Albion in the mid 90's to watch a few of the Anglo Italians.
PS, I think the Man City keeper was Williams, and I'm pretty sure it was the Wolves keeper in goal for the "Blacks" that night who's name escapes me.

The change of the old guard under Ronnie Allen to the new one under Big Ron was pretty dramatic wasn't it? The likes of Cantello, Tony Brown, Osbourne, Johnny Giles and John Trewick replaced with the likes of Batson, Wile, Cunningham, Bryan Robson and Regis.Fug1 wrote:Yep, only at the Hawthorns though, my dad couldn't afford to go away.

Probably with the exception of the late 1970s and early 80s, the seson 1985-86 was pretty memorable in much the same way as last season was as a Villa fan. Utter shite, car crash football and being heavily tonked at home.

Yep, Believe it or not in the late 70's early 80's we were one of the richest clubs around, still managed some decent league finishes, and then bad management off the pitch saw us drop like a stone, it's took years to get back.kancutlawns wrote:The change of the old guard under Ronnie Allen to the new one under Big Ron was pretty dramatic wasn't it? We went down rock bottom in 85/86 with Blues and Ipswich that were very good just a few years before.

WBA had some unbelievable players in the late 70s/early 80s. Amazing they never won the title at that time.

He lived up my road. A really decent, down to earth bloke who was an antithesis of the great showman he was when he was on the pitch. A real legend in the sense of the word. Martin Jol lived on the road next to us and when we moved house, Brendan Batson, Garth Crooks and Ally Robertson were in the neighbourhood. Met Bryan Robson when he opened a ward at our local hospital.delboy1983 wrote:Tony Bomber Brown was my fav playerZippy wrote:WBA had some unbelievable players in the late 70s/early 80s. Re: Blacks v Whites
Think they finished third in 1978-79, the season they won 5-3 at Old Trafford. They would have won but the harsh winter affected them. Otherwise, really fantastic football with incredibly talented players, just as when Big Ron went on the manager Villa in the 90s. He knew how to get the players up for it with quality wingers and prolific strikers.

All time greats. Team Black - Pele and Eusebio........that is it.
All time greats - Team white...Messi, Best...2-2 already, now stick in that German defender what's his surname....begins with B. Makes it 3-2 and that is only after 5 minutes. The ref blew the whistle early as not to induce race riots for the hammering that would have came.
Daft thread.
