Does anyone regularly watch another club?

Post by Reg »

One of my best mates is a Birmingham fan who lives in London. Until his dad died, he was a season-ticket holder at St Andrews, and used to come to the occasional Palace game when Blues were away.

Now his desire for terrible football draws him more regularly to Selhurst (that and the chance of a drink with a bunch of depressed Palace fans).

Anyone else find themselves watching a team they don't support?

I was a Reading season ticket holder when I lived there in the 80s. (Elm Park Loyal, whoo hoo!) That was during their record breaking season. I went to quite a few away games with them too. I'm still quite fond of the Biscuitmen.

Nope. Not me.

Before I was married I chummed with a few boys supported Tranmere.

They played all their home games of a Friday night and every couple months I would go over there and go with them to the game then we crossed the river again to go clubbing.

I used to love the Friday night football.
Alex Young, Howard Kendall, Andy King, Timmy Cahill, Dixie Dean and Mike Parry.....we'll never see the likes of them again.

They have. They're 'The Royals' now. Mind you, it could have been a lot worse.

The best nickname for a team ever is the one for current Irish league Champions, Crusaders FC.
The Hatchetmen.
Its sums up their traditional playing style and one of the main pastimes of their Shore Road/Skegoniel/Tigers Bay based support.

I lived in the middle of Villa country so all my neighbours and mates supported them. Used to go Blues one week and Villa the next.

Im guessing from the location of the grounds that in Birmingham the northeast and east would be Villa, south to Brum and far north and north west Baggies....relatively speaking.

I used to watch midlands clubs occasionally when I lived near Villa Park.

Remember one Saturday I ended up watching Coventry play Man United while Palace were winning 6-0 at St Andrews. :x

Yeah. Local Junior team. Been semi regular for a good few years. They're rank rotten but it gives me a good reason to get out the house for a few house on a Saturday afternoon plus the mince pies are fantastic.

Used to work round the back of Mad Stad in the late 1990s when it was fairly new and it must have been the best and most modern lower league stadiums of the time. Does a fair bit for the community and does it's bit to stop the school kids from entering a life of being plastics by supporting the usual by giving them tickets to support the Royals so fair play. Probably forces them to chase the plastics in a perverse way, I don't know.

I did that too. Watched Walsall, West Brom and occasionally Wolves in the 80s and early 90s. All the teams were shit so there was little rivalry and it was fun.

I remember the Mad Stad when it was a swamp. Seriously, an honest to God, marsh gas, herons, frogs and body dumping swamp. And an old sewage works too. The source of the Whitley whiff.

It's like an American business park these days with wide boulevards but little of any interest there. Even then the retail park was shite, just Dixons, MFI, KFC and a pet shop.

I grew up in the West Midlands and went to Villa Park regularly. It was during the Big Ron era: the manager in the dugout in his trenchcoat, sovereign rings and aviators. Muller Rice shirts, Deadly Doug calling the shots in the boardroom, Bosnich goading Spurs fans, Tony "Pineapple Head" Daley, Ray "You haven't played the game" Houghton, Dean "Village Idiot" Saunders, Paul "10 pints" McGrath. Good days 8)

I once saw Nottingham Forest v Notts County when I was at university (a 0-0 draw) because we were going on the piss in Nottingham for the night.

That's it. Only interested in Spurs. The rest can all fuck off.
If Arsenal were playing in my back garden, I would draw the curtains.

North of M6 is basically Villa, Solihull 50/50 the rest is Blues.

Albion is West of M5 & Smethwick.

Lived on St Andrews Road for 10 years, used to pop in and watch Blues when the Albion wasn't playing.
