Sport's greatest instances of schadenfreude?

Post by Lou Grant »

At the end of the last cricket season England fast bowler Reece Topley left his home county of Essex because he felt 'the county lacked, in his eyes, the ambition to sustain him, comfortable with Division Two of the Championship and unable to turn its excellent wins ratio in the limited-overs game into trophies.' He moved to Division One side Hampshire.

While batting for his new county on the opening day of the 2016 season he was hit on the hand and broke a bone that meant a lengthy lay off from the game. Before he could play again, a back injury put an end to his season.

So in total he played one day of cricket for his new county in 2016. The season has now ended. His old club Essex have been promoted to Division One as champions, while Hampshire were today relegated to Division Two.

Can anyone think of a more disastrous sporting move than that of Reece Topley?

I think it was. Nick Knight informed us that he had the temperament to handle the situation. No he fucking didn't!

As a Northants supporter, I must admit a bit of schadenfreude for David Willey and Jack Brooks.
