two goals today for Derry's finest, lets hope he is not 'injured' for the next three games.

Guess in the case of football then if he is employed and paid a wage then he has to do as told. But still some people do get on like most people HAVE to wear a poppy which is quite frankly horseshit. IMO anyhow. Didn't some newsreader get shit not long ago for not wearing one. Bit daft that attitude to me personally.subsub wrote:I wouldn't demand he wear one when he goes to the shops.Rossco wrote:Don't like the cunt but his choice and any others. But if every Premier League shirt has them one weekend, and he makes a big deal about objecting and choosing to be the one footballer out of hundreds who refuses, then it makes him look a cunt.
You make it sound like people are coming up to him in the street and demand he wear one, which is not the same thing at all.

No other player from an ex colony bothers about it.subsub wrote:Hmm...Rossco wrote:Didn't some newsreader get shit not long ago for not wearing one. Bit daft that attitude to me personally.
I do think that the vast majority of people in the UK think that wearing a poppy is a good and respectful thing to do, so if you are on television (ie in the public eye) and choose not to wear one, you are making it clear to people that you really don't want to do so, ie it's not just indifference, it's real opposition to the notion of wearing one. And if you live and work in the UK, I have a problem with that.

Absolute bollocks. The idea of having to wear one in case you offend someone else is laughable. Just because you don't wear one doesn't mean you don't respect the dead. I have never worn the clubs colours when going to watch the football team I support, but that doesn't mean I'm any less a supporter than those who do.subsub wrote:Hmm...Rossco wrote:Didn't some newsreader get shit not long ago for not wearing one. But if all the football shirts have already been made with a poppy on them, you'd have to be pretty opposed to wearing one to ask specificially for a shirt without a poppy - that's the difference in this case.al growler wrote:Just because you don't wear one doesn't mean you don't respect the dead.
Yes.Rossco wrote:Didn't some newsreader get shit not long ago for not wearing one. Bit daft that attitude to me personally.
I do agree, My Grandad was in WW2 and suffered a bullet in his right leg for the rest of his life, but the freedom is gone, where is the freedom, unless you have money you have to live with shyte.Kowalski wrote:There's a lot of poppy fascists about these days.
Remember, they died for our freedom, not so you can dictate to others.
Can you disagree with that statement........discuss, I am a little bit ignorant to the Poppy, I agree with him, as I read earlier it would be like John Terry playing for Bayern Munich and takign part in a German remembernce ceremonyfinchman wrote:Republic of Ireland international James McClean explains poppy stance.
Wigan Athletic’s Republic of Ireland international winger James McClean will not be wearing a poppy shirt tonight alongside the rest of his Wigan Athletic team mates, as the club takes part in football’s annual Remembrance Day commemoration.
This is a personal decision by James, who explained his position in a letter to Latics Chairman Dave Whelan before the two met face to face to discuss the issue this week.
Following the meeting, Mr Whelan accepted James’ decision and it is both their wish that the letter is published here in full, alongside this statement. There will be no further comment on this issue by the club.
