As some of you may know, my best mate died a few weeks back.
Anyway, I've got a relatively old smartphone, and it plays up when it gets congested with messages, so I tend to delete most of them on a semi- regular basis.
I've got a thread of about 7-8 messages from my late pal, from when he's in the hospital. They're all pretty short and sweet, saying that he doesn't feel great.
I can't bring myself to delete, yet I know it's doing me know good keeping them.
Shall I just bite the bullet and delete them?

I'd say your memory of him as a friend is worth far more than a few expendable text messages BB. If it means anything take a few photos of them if you want and keep those instead.

Re: Silly question, but...
My father died nearly two years ago, I retired the phone and the e-mail account he used to send me stuff on. I can still access them and I carry the phone with me always. I hate that something so fucking transient and stupid is part of his memory, but don't delete is my advice for what it is worth. Move on but keep them close.
Sorry for your loss BB

I would get them printed off, put them in a frame and hang them somewhere you'll see them.

Keep them, you can replace a phone and it sounds like it's about ready anyway.

Yeah, maybe I should swap phones or upgrade, not a bad idea.

The messages are nothing great. The last one is quite upsetting though.warmleatherette wrote:Keep them, you can replace a phone and it sounds like it's about ready anyway.
Yeah, It's a Galaxy, early model.

You won't be 'disloyal' or anything of the kind if you choose to delete them.Bad Blue 2000 wrote:The messages are nothing great. The last one is quite upsetting though.warmleatherette wrote:Keep them, you can replace a phone and it sounds like it's about ready anyway.
Yeah, It's a Galaxy, early model.
It shows that you're on the road to accepting what's happened and moving on.
But if any of them would make a nice keepsake, I would definitely make a note of the wording so that you have a record of them.

There's nothing florid or sentimental about them.subsub wrote:You won't be 'disloyal' or anything of the kind if you choose to delete them.Bad Blue 2000 wrote:The messages are nothing great. You're right though. I should get rid.
May need somebody else to physically do it though.
Cheers all for the advice.

A couple of my friends passed away. I still have their messenger threads, every now and then look at them.

Re: Silly question, but...
Not a silly question at all, BB. If you don't want to delete now, save the messages to your sim if keeping it or forward them to an email and change phone.
You can then decide later about deleting them. But if in an inbox somewhere you will still have them.

don't delete, get a new phone, retire the phone with messages
might not bring comfort now, but hearing his voice in years to come?

Erm... Blue, follow your own instinct about what to do. It's a personal thing and only you would know what's right for you.
