Apparently Danny Alexander has enraged the Tories by releasing details of their plans to cut the Welfare bill if they get elected. I don't think they should be too upset, as a lot of people would support it in my view. If you want children, make sure you can afford to bring them up first.
According to Danny Alexander, the unimplemented Tory proposals included:
Banning child benefit and child tax credits for more than two children, leaving a family with three children up to £3,500 worse off
Removing higher rate Child Benefit from first child - an average cut of over £360 for every family with children
Means-testing Child Benefit - cutting £1,750 for a two child middle income family
Removing Child Benefit from 16-19-year-olds - a cut of over £1,000 for parents of a single child
Tory/Lib Dem bust up - Child Benefit etc.

Re: Tory/Lib Dem bust up - Child Benefit etc.
A farce.
Small beer compared to the amounts paid in housing benefit and income support.
Housing benefit- £18bn this year- invented after we abandoned social housing and pumped up the property market. To catch those left behind by those blunders. Where does that £18bn of our money go? To private landlords. Even a quarter of that spent on social housing would transform our housing situation. NOT a Labour invention; a Tory invention because of the catastrophes of the 80s.
Income support- as with all benefits, more paid to those in work than out of it. In effect a subsidy by the taxpayer to underpaying employers. Costing in the region of £8bn/year.
We should not start with child benefit, particularly in view of our future demographics. Let's unwind the wrongs that these other benefits seek to redress.

This is a good policy by the Tories . The growing underclass are a big drain on the economy and it's not fair on people who work their fingers to the bone, only for their taxes to provide plasma tvs and foreign holidays for people that have never done a hard days graft. I admire people like mike ashley. No one is forced to

Castrate/sterilize the underclass? Let's get to the point & stop fucking around. Right? That's where you're all going isn't it?

Plenty of hard working single mums/couples who use child benefit. No need to take it from them.theleader82 wrote:This is a good policy by the Tories . Unless you want people in this country to have even fewer children and make us further reliant on migrant labour in coming generations.

Re: Tory/Lib Dem bust up - Child Benefit etc.
But the exploited migrants won't be so eager to come here if there are no welfare payments to top up their minimum wage-busting paypackets, so our own 'underclass' will suddenly not only find themselves needing a job, but having no excuse not to get one. We end up putting people into a vicious cycle of underpaid, serf type labour. Preventing them and future generations from improving their quality of life and spending in our economy. That or penury driven crime.
Migrants will come regardless of whether there is child benefit or not. A great deal who come over are single and childless anyway.

Some people are better off on child benefit than working families which just isn't fair. That's why there are campsites in Calais full of people waiting to come here.

I'm afraid he is correct. I know a family who chose to work and are worse off financially now than before they got jobs.
Something very wrong with that situation.

There are.
But the point is they're not going to be put off by the decimation in UK child benefit.
