city-data.com
A US site that also has London and a UK sections.
They cover everything from real estate prices to genealogy and a hell of a lot more.
The best bit of it it when you acces crime maps. They are fascinating and not only for how much they tell you about the crimes marked. Depending on whatever state or city you are on, you can see where sex offenders, complete with address and photos are.

Thanks Bas, shall have a good look at that. On the National Library of Scotland site you can have a old map/new map side by side. Click Map Images and then side by side view. Great to see maps where they were just fields which are now built over or where an old Railway line used to be.

Some great sites there, lads.
I love looking at demographics, stats, census numbers - for some odd probably slightly autistic reason.
Check out skyscrapercity.com. Many pics on the forum are just routine normal streets, but in far fung places like Dagestan or Panama City. The pics of markets, roads, transport stations, daily life - are the most exciting.

On the National Library of Scotland site the best maps for comparing side by side are:
OS One inch, 1885-1900-outline
OS One inch 7th series, 1955-61

Also look at the arrow on the left hand side, it is tracked on the right side so you know where you are and vice versa.ccreds wrote:On the National Library of Scotland site the best maps for comparing side by side are:

Re: Interesting Websites.
Just spotted 2 former racecourses Lincoln and Lewes. You can see the general outline of the course from above. Have a look on National Library of Scotland or google maps/earth.ccreds wrote:Also look at the arrow on the left hand side, it is tracked on the right side so you know where you are and vice versa.ccreds wrote:On the National Library of Scotland site the best maps for comparing side by side are:

Lincoln Racecourse right next to the a57 as you going into Lincoln.
Lewes Racecourse right next to the a27 and just to the west of Lewes.

Re: Interesting Websites.
There's one thing noticeable with the ' OS One inch 7th series 1955-61' and now is the motorways, Chris. I was looking where the bloody M1 was.

One for Carlos. Didn't you know that the Lady Bay Bridge was a railway bridge originally? The other side from Trent Bridge.

There was another bridge, which knocked down in about 1984 that use to go across the Trent. Maybe beingsoblase might remember it?ccreds wrote:One for Carlos. Didn't you know that the Lady Bay Bridge was a railway bridge originally? The other side from Trent Bridge.
All in your town or city see if you can spot some changes.

So in the video overleaf the North Circular Road is more better than South Circular Road. There was going to be 4 circular roads around London.

My favourite circular road has always been the outer circle in Brummagem. One of my Sunday treats was a trip round there with my dear old dad on the buzz.

Reddit can be extremely interesting, and very weird if you are not careful.
