A cycling fanatic at my gym knows the Yates family and from cycling holidays in Spain where the boys train, tells some really interesting facts about their lives as pro cyclists very much on their way up. I knew that this programme would not be anything like what the twins (Simon and Adam) do but it made me realise what I wish I were watching.
This was okay but is a reality TV show with the emphasis on drama (whether real, perceived or otherwise) accompanied by appropriate music and script constantly mapping out potential problems and making the most of real ones.
How on earth will Jodie Kidd be able to do the Etap with a torn ligament? But she tells us that she is going top do 'everything she can' to still do it.
I not sure I buy it. Maybe she'll have to pull out so I'll reserve further judgement but if she ends up doing the Etap, it will make me think that she never had a tear in the first place.
On the question about team building, instead of showing us a Tough Mudder event, how about showing us how the riders were / are trained to ride in a group with rotating leader? Not good enough or interesting enough TV?
All a bit predictable really with surprise, surprise, the ex pros (Goffee) getting competitive (all gets a bit tiresome) and the non sports people going on their 'journeys' as much figuratively than literally.
To make matters worst, I texted BIKE to whatever number they gave in the outside (very, very outside) chance of winning £5k
My Cousin was a professional cyclist for 10 years or so from about the age of 19.
It is complete, total dedication. He was in a team that was say Brentford if team SKY are Man Utd.
Rich had some really bad injuries at really shit times which saw his roommate's Adam Blythe and Chris Froome progress to the top whilst he stood still (not just saying that!)
Unbelievably hard sport, fag papers between success and failure.
He finished 2 years ago now after being ran over by a team car, he now sniffs glue and sucks off dogs for heroin!! (He doesn't)
