Russia do too. Led by a megalomaniac who thinks nothing of dropping napalm on the people of Allepo. Surely, you're aware of this? Have you got yourself tooled up yet for the coming chaos?

The use of chemical agents in warfare is not exclusive to Russia. The USA and Israel are notorious users of said products.kancutlawns wrote:Russia do too. The bashing of Russia is motivated by power play, not by any genuine humanitarian concern by the likes of the UK and US governments. Otherwise, we'd see more pro-active condemnation of Israel's treatment of Palestinians or Saudi Arabia's indiscriminate bombing of Yemen.
Not to mention the civilian toll of Western airstrikes around the world.
The West doesn't want Russia or anyone else getting in the way of their plans for the world. It's as simple as that.

Double Standards for Israel and Syria
When Israel bombards Gaza after some ineffectual rocket attacks, the U.S. sees a right of self-defense, but different standards apply to Syria when foreign-backed terrorists fire deadly rockets and mortars, notes Rick Sterling.

I just don't understand why Russia is immune from any criticism outside of the US and even there there's deep suspicion about their nation's role in the region. Not really heard much in the way of Russia bashing, myself. I don't think any of the players in the war are at all interested in the humanitarian catastrophe and the atrocities committed on the hospitals and the UN compound by both sides a couple of weeks ago have been brushed under the carpet. The Tick wrote:The use of chemical agents in warfare is not exclusive to Russia. Both the US and Russia are indulging in muscle flexing and it really is a proxy war.

Re: WW3 coming soon?
There is no shortage of international outrage at Russia's activities in Syria. Criticism is fine but only when done in a rational, contextual and even handed manner. The outright criticism of just about any manoeuvre by Russia anywhere in the world is lopsided and will do nothing to relieve their perception that they are singled out unfairly (which itself has some truth).kancutlawns wrote: I just don't understand why Russia is immune from any criticism outside of the US and even there there's deep suspicion about their nation's role in the region. Russia are not acting nicely in Syria. But then this is a war. And a war against terrorist organisations, not another regular military force.
And if the terrorists in East Aleppo stopped using civilians as human shields maybe the devastation would not be so huge.

How many countries have they invaded in the Middle East?
How many military bases in other countries?
Have they surrounded the USA with nukes?

Bit of a loaded question there which takes away their part in the carnage in a region where there are a whole host of self interested parties all getting a share of the spoils and killing civilians. Your questions are just noise.paolo wrote:Is russia the aggressor?kancutlawns wrote:I just don't understand why Russia is immune from any criticism outside of the US and even there there's deep suspicion about their nation's role in the region. Singling out Russia's activities there, while missing the bigger picture, doesn't help anything.
We know that Russia are doing vicious stuff, but it's against terrorist gangs, not a conventional armed force.

Re: WW3 coming soon?
That's why the ceasefire could never hold. Russia/Syria going after all rebel groups including the "good guys" Al Qaeda, the US/UK after only IS, Turkey having a vendetta against the Kurds. Way too many vested interests and an incredibly messy conflict. Agree that the US have to take their share of the blame. The Tick wrote:Singling out Russia's activities there, while missing the bigger picture, doesn't help anything.

The best (or least worst) option is to let Russia and Syria carry out the expulsion of the terrorist groups. It's the quickest way to ending the bloodshed, odd as that may sound.
Obama is not going to do anything. For that would entail direct military engagement against Putin.

I have greatest respect for Rugby Union, they started it mid-way through the 19th century. Thankfully we grabbed it and turned it into a spectacle on 29th August 1895
