Tom and Jerry cartoons on television are being accompanied by a warning that they may depict scenes of "racial prejudice".
The classic cat and mouse cartoons, some made more than 70 years ago, carry a warning for subscribers to Amazon Prime Instant Video.
There have been claims of racist stereotyping in the depiction of a black maid in the cartoon series.
The cartoons were made in the 40s and 50s, when many middle class American homes still employed black house servants. These were some of the greatest cartoons ever created. The maid was never shown in full, you only ever saw her slippers, the bottom of her dress and apron.
I always wondered why these wonderful cartoons were never shown on the main channels any more. Now we know the answer.
How long before a total ban , or edited,defaced versions of these masterpieces are only available?
And what about history? Depicting black housekeepers may provoke debate about racial prejudices? That is surely a good thing?
But if the bedwetters get their way? No child today has ever read a Noddy book.
They never learn. Book burning, banning, cartoon defacing,censorship, 'ear plugs and blindfolds', the eradication of thought, and of asking questions, and to not learn the lessons from historical evidence, make society the worse, not better.
