You have never provided evidence to the contrary. Therefore in talkforum terms, you're guilty sunbed.

Tragically, the answer is yes.

I doubt that you would say that if you were stuck/lumbered with him for a day.

Let's put it this way, you wouldn't want any of your friends to see the two of you together.

He dresses up like that even if he's not playing golf (except he wears crocs rather than golfist shoes).

Fashion disaster is putting it mildly. The saddest thing is that he thinks he looks cool

She has a point here, I have a friend who has inexplicably given her child a fucking pikey name - she's not a pikey, far from it.

The snag is that when you are an employer and you have a stack of CVs in front of you and not enough time to read them all, you will start a weeding process by your opinion on what the name represents and the possible upbringing of that child, if you think that child comes from pikey stock, you may well bin it without even turning a page.

Can't that work the other way though if you give your child a pretentious name? If you have the name Fenwick Le Urquhart II on a CV then you may think "upper class tosser".

You'd hope that an employer would at least make the time to give a few CVs a quick look over to see the person's qualifications and work experience before dismissing them.

Yep - it's a very good indicator of the type of house they were brought up in.

For example if you're called Mohammed, there's a pretty decent chance you were brought up in a muslim household, if you're called Kai, Hayden, Tyer or Zak, there's a very good chance your parents were chavs.

If your name is James, or Andrew etc, the name doesn't tell me anything about you so I'll havve to check your CV in more detail.

When you have a lot of candidates for a job the weeding out process is brutal, a couple of spelling mistakes and you're shitcanned as well.

It doesn't sound nice and it isn't, but it is the reality of the situation.

He has a point. Hes not saying its right but it happens.
Not so much if young Britney or Kai has a string of double firsts at Cambridge or a degree from Harvard business school or something, but when sifting through an amorphous mass of similar mediocrity I daresay inbuilt predjudice, restriction of time or maybe just plain laziness will swing into effect.
I wouldnt think it would be in a majority of cases but certainly in a noteworthy percentage of them.
And i speak as someone whose only fault I can think of against against my late parents was that I was stuck with the 60s chavvy name of Barry growing up and the lazy fuckers didnt even give me a middle name to fall back on either.

Also I think that to a growing degree a double barreled surname these days might show ethnic roots as much as upper class one. Which is a good thing.
But I do think that fore name or...lets be controversial and call them like in the old days, christian names, are the real give away. Not many Ollies or Indias working on factory floors.

Well, you would hope that if people are that stupid and blinkered, then there will be more than one person reading the CVs, so at least their personal prejudices might balance out.

Like most people, I have my own preconceptions about names, but unsurprisingly the people rarely correspond to the preconceptions.

On the rare occasions I have been involved in interviewing people, I never let names influence my choices.
