Rats n Mice

Post by paolo »

How do you find out where they come in?

How do you catch them?

I don't want to poison them, as they bugger off and die and rot and stink

Use the "humane" traps that just captures them so you can release them away from your property, but check them regularly as its not quite as "humane" if leave them to starve to death.

Put some gelatine down. It swells up in their intestines and kills the little bastards.
The clever thing is that they nibble a little bit and don't feel ill, so they go back and eat loads.

If you've got rats then you haven't got mice and vice vera. They just don't integrate and are not interested in diversity.

If you want to know where they're getting in get a can of expanding foam and bung all the holes up, you'll easily see where they've clawed it out to reveal the holes they use.

As regards getting rid of them, best method i've heard came from a polish bloke my mate (a rat catcher) knew who was holed up in a Russian prisoner of war camp. Get a red hot poker and stick it in the rats eyeball. Apparently the scream is off the scale and all the rats in the area just run off in terror.

With humane traps , you have to check them every day then you have to drive off over a mile from your home to release them.
With their sense of smell ,.they could just make their way back to your home and you'd have burnt off petrol for nothing,
I use Big Cheese snappers which don't leave a gory mess, like the old fashioned wire traps and is a quick death for them.
I don't feel guilty about it as I prefer them not spreading diseases in the home or chewing their way through electric cables which
could start a fire in your home.

That sticky stuff is quite good as well. I put some down on the ceiling hatch in a house some years back and screwed a handle to it so I could lift it out more easily. After a few days I went back and there the house was full of women so I thought it's be a good time to check the loft. Any road out came the hatch and thee was a thumping great rat stuck to the other side of it. The screams weren't quite as bad as shoving a hot poker into its eye but it was close. :D

I could have chucked a terrier up there instead and just let it rip the lot in one go.

I have heard similar from a friend, though not quite as detailed. He had a problem with rats at his (then) new house which was in the country. His farmer brother in law solved the issue by catching some of the rats in a cage trap then setting them on fire in it. Gordy swears it worked.
That would be a bit brutal even for me, and I cant abide the fuckers.
I have had one of those electronic things that you plug into the wall which sends some sort of signal throughout your circuitry or something. I have had it for years ever since a bad mouse problen at my old house. It worked a fucking treat. I use it still about 15 years later, though I also have a Jack Russell which helps, though he is a lazy bastard who has been bested by a hedgehog.

Seen that video before. Slightly off topic, but err slightly similar, not sure if told old tale before, but hey.

A friend from rural sunny Suffolk and as a boy had a bad old Hamster. His dad spoke to some proper yokel chap across the back fence who said he would deal with it.

So friend and dad took the old Hamster to the back fence, handed it over it to be seen off to the next life pleasantly. The old fella just dropped it and stamped on its head.

Job done, but my mate was a tad taken aback. Always amuses when he tells from the first person.

Talcum powder.... you will see their footprints, when you know where they come from a battery of eight or nine traps in a block around the entry point no bait, the idea is if they spring one trap and quickly dodge the bar (which they can ) they will jump straight into another trap which will get them. This method never fails. In my RAF days we often had rodents come after the dog biscuits stores I was known as the mice Eichmann I got rid of em every time

Seriously, Mice are actually worse than rats because they dont have a proper bladder like other animals do, so they constantly dribble tiny amounts of piss wherever they go You got mice you want to get rid pronto
