Countries/Nationalites as surnames

Post by kevin04 »

Met a colleague of a friend last week who's surname was Spain. I had never heard it before, but it has got me thinking of nationalities, countries or even towns that you know of surnames?

Irvine Welsh
Gary Wales
Jason Scotland
Isaac/Tom English
Matt Holland
David Ireland
Hamish French
German - as a first name in Spanish speaking places.

Hopefully will meet a Paul Poland one day, or Graham Bhutan.

There was a footballer called France - hazy memory says he played for Hearts. Almost certainly wrong.

Possibly a Poland too - West Brom?
