Spots

Post by caveman »

I am a middle aged man and yet I still get lots of spots. At the moment I have one on my nose which makes it look like I have a neon red clown nose on.

Any ideas what I can do to prevent getting them.

Rub Colgate toothpaste onto the spot. It tends to make it subside and go. I sometimes pop them by squeezing them.

Could be rosacia, which is completely different from acne, although it can look similar, e.g. pustules.

If it is, then you need to treat it completely differently, as acne treatments and scrubs etc can make it much worse.

You have kill the bacteria from within otherwise they will keep returning.
Go to your Doctor and he will prescribe something. It maybe something within your system that will never go away but with antibiotics you can at least keep them controlled.
Hardest bit though is getting an appointment.

People that sweat quite a lot can still get spots as there pores get blocked up. Wash your face thoroughly in warm/hot water twice a day and use a flannel which will help remove dead skin.

Drink more beer.

It's full of B vitamins (yeast) and those are the ones that ultimately fuel the body's natural defenses against them.

Sound advice, sub.

When I was a teenager, I went through a spotty phase.

I dramatically changed my diet, eating as healthily as possible and cutting out all the crap - especially sugar.

I also (perhaps stupidly?) used to put calamine lotion on the spots each night. It seemed to work as my spotty phase was mercifully pretty brief.

When I was a teenager, i tried Clearasil. I thought it was a load of crap & actually made the condition worse.

I ended up using calamine lotion which dries them up.

Yes, I used that a few times - really strong stuff, and not effective at all.
Made your face sting/tingle, but that was about it.

I get a spotty nose occasionally. No spots anywhere else. Bit weird. They manifest overnight. I'm probably dying.

I remember having a solitary spot in the middle of my chest about 12 years ago and nothing seemed to shift it. Most are gone on their own reasonably quickly but this fucker stayed there for weeks. Someone suggested rubbing a cutting from an Aloe Vera plant onto it and it was gone in two days. Apparently it is used to rub into road rash wounds in foreign countries (where I was when it was suggested) after someone comes off a bike and is supposed to prevent major scarring as it heals before scar tissue forms.

Was that Jeff Goldblum in The Fly? A pretty repulsive movie, especially at the end when he morphs into an actual fly.
