Santander 1 2 3 Account

Post by Zambo »

Anyone got one?

On the face of it, for a fiver a month, cash back and interest figures don't look bad, and at 3%, it's double what most savings accounts are paying out.

This page is interesting:

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/saving ... s-loophole

Though it does require having multiple accounts which some people might find unethical.

Also a pain in the bum looking at those examples. Looks like the Santanda account has been around some time, so I've either missed the hype or there hasn't been any. Interesting that they upped there fee by over 100%, so things can change quickly and by a lot. Worth a chat with the friendly bank staff at least

Best place IMO.

Put your money under there and you've always got something to fall back on.

Premium Bonds. Unfashionable yes. But my old mum, bless her, has a modest sum and she invested it all in Premium Bonds. Nothing is lost. And over the last five years or so, she has got a cheque for 250 quid every so often. She's certainly earned more through Premium Bonds than dividends invested in shares. If you want to invest a modest sum I would suggest premium bonds. I never hear Premium Bonds mentioned in financial media, so immediately it garners interest to me.
Fred Kite: I've got to be off. I can't stay here arguing. I've got a lot to do. Report to the Executive, check up on the pickets.
Mrs. Kite: From what I can see, the only time you ever jolly well *do* any work is when you're on strike.

Don't mix up bank accounts and savings.
Done separately you can do better.
Santander does not have a good reputation for customer service.
First Direct has won that competition for years.

You're wrong there Hillman. Santander CS has improved dramatically in recent years.
Sure FD is better, but you don't get the interest rates.

Zambo, if you are saving the max amount then it's definately worthwhile. If not then you need to do the maths....

Up to 75000 and you are "probably" ok. After that you are definitely fucked.

Tell her to put the lot into Green Shield Stamps.

I'll do it for for her if you send me her details.

Was thinking about moving some savings due to poor returns, otherwise would keep separate.

Hillman, on savings how can I do better than 3% unless I put in a fixed rate long termer?
