I live very near Lewisham. It's got nothing going for it whatsoever.

Re: Places to visit in the south of England
I was born in Lewisham and the old dear still lives there, can't disagree with you but I can't believe the house prices. She has a three bed semi and the one opposite sold for £725k last month My sister who lives in Hartley Kent has a beautiful detached 5 bedroom house and can't sell it for £800k , madness !!Zippy wrote:I live very near Lewisham. Re: Places to visit in the south of England
But in particular Greenwich.
There are lots if interesting places to visit though, such as Eltham Palace (if you like art deco, it is a stunning house).
The Horniman Museum was favourite of my childhood (although the spectacular Chinese torture chair is no longer on display ffor resins of political correctness, and the live crocodile has gone too. But the shrunken heads etc are still there I think.
I also used to like the giant dinosaurs in Crystal Palace Park.

I was there for a gin launch a year or so ago. Had a snake wrapped round me, plus there were tarantulas, scorpions etc - great stuff!Reg wrote:The Horniman Museum was favourite of my childhood (although the spectacular Chinese torture chair is no longer on display ffor resins of political correctness, and the live crocodile has gone too. Two things:
- I was there for work
- when did I ever say I support Labour?

Lived just down the road from the Horniman Museum on Lordship Lane up until March. It is indeed a great spot.subsub wrote:I was there for a gin launch a year or so ago. I used to live in Beckenham and can fully agree with your comment, I went into the centre of Leisham once in the whole time I lived there. Awful place.Zippy wrote:I live very near Lewisham. It's got nothing going for it whatsoever.

To be fair to the sculptor, I think he did them in the mid-nineteenth century, based on the relatively limited scientific knowledge of the day.colinthewarriormonkey wrote:Reg wrote: I also used to like the giant wrongosaurs in Crystal Palace Park.

Re: Places to visit in the south of England
Oh yeah, there was a short lived campaign to get them replaced with accurate ones, I'd be dead against that - they are a wonderful look back at what people thought in the 19th century.Reg wrote:To be fair to the sculptor, I think he did them in the mid-nineteenth century, based on the relatively limited scientific knowledge of the day.colinthewarriormonkey wrote:Reg wrote: I also used to like the giant wrongosaurs in Crystal Palace Park.
