Places to visit in the south of England

What are the places to visit on the south coast? Looking to go as far west as the Dorset coast such as Poole and Isle of White and as far east as Brighton and Hove. Really looking at stuff like gardens, heritage and culture, sightseeing, driving. Been to Southampton and Portsmouth a couple of years back. OK, I suppose. So really counties would include Sussex, Hants and Dorset, happy to to inland a bit including Hampshire (probably as far up as Winchester).

Can't beat a bit of Weymouth, but it's probably shit in the main summer holiday period so I suppose it depends when you are going. Mind you I don't do heritage, culture, sightseeing or driving. so ignore my advice!

I'd go walking on the South Downs and also out in the new forest. Brighton for your Gaypril vibe (although apart from the cricket at Hove, Brighton is shit and all those stony beaches down there are shit).

On the plus side, pretty much anywhere you go will be an improvement on Southampton and Portsmouth.

I'd rather not say, you may get upset.

Seriously though, Yorkshire's cold and miserable until mid summer so the south is far more comfortable this time of the year.

Arundel, a market town within the south downs is worth a visit. Arundel castle if you go is a must. Around 10 miles from Chichester, the Mrs will like the shops there, and Chichester Cathedral steeped in history

Lyme Regis is nice. Stayed there on a geography trip. Good place to base yourself while exploring the Jurassic coast.

Drive west at around sunset from Weymouth direction along the road just before West Bay above Chesil Beach. The low summer sun lights the place magically. Every fort, barrow and earthwork, and there are lots of them, is emphasised by it own shadow while the weird Chesil beach points towards the sunset. You really get the feeling that its a very ancient landscape.

Bournemouth Beach
Canterbury (close to Margate beach)
New Forest and South Downs National Parks (close to South coast)
Great Yarmouth (if you consider that to be South)
Salisbury and Stonehenge (close enough to Bournemouth)
Dover to Brighton cliffs
Canvey Island (honest)
Medway Estuary
Isle of Wight is amazing

The South West is a part of England I'm not familiar with. Hoping to go in the summer for some surfing/kite-surfing action around Cornwall.
