Hardly anyone else left. Is Arthur a mod still? Can't see what he really does to be honest. Is it a privilege to him to have his name in blue rather than actually perform modding duties? I really am keen on knowing.

I remember you asked the question around Christmas and there wasn't an adequate reply.

Think it might've been Moonie but the point still stands.

If he's not actively moderating there's no need for him to have all the privileges.

Hardly worth going to all that bother. Not more than say 15 odd regular posters, to try to have a democratic, formal process of having new mods is taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. It's just pure theatre and everyone would be rowing again about the modding. We only really need a couple of mods really. The ratio of mods to posters is about right.

There is too much for one person to keep on top of and a fair bit of the work happens behind of the scenes, housekeeping if you want to call it that.

https://www.talkforum.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... 15#p913703

So instead of on threads, why not have a forum members survey. Why not? Three simple questions:

1. Notin says the forum is quiet. Why is that?

No quieter than "normal."There is a lack of "new blood" which I suppose reduces the forum to a regular core of posters, creating the illusion of it being quiet....Individual sections are busy though..D&D, TS Discussion for example.People tend to stay within these sections.

2. What do you think can attract more posters?

A new banner ( too grey!!)..The fact that posters have to post in the hello and welcome section I guess is off putting. And the fact that any new posters are automatically accused of being multis  -Not the most welcoming scenario.New sections-The sections we have cater for those already here rather than encouraging new posters to "join in"...mix it up a bit..create some more "relevant" sections and bin those hardly used

3. What can improve the forum?
Impartial moderation..Moderators not pursuing petty individual vendettas, agendas etc.Moderators not using personal info to "score points" fair treatment for all posters...if rules are transgressed, implement them across the board.Stop Douglas spamming TS Discussion!!, Zero tolerance to racism, Etc Etc Etc.....Loads can probably "improve" the forum, but it's all subjective innit?

Answers on here are welcome or PM Mark or myself or even email [email protected]. Replies by midnight Sunday please. Thanks in advance

Let us see what the posters actually say.
We can do things to make the forum less grey and if anybody wants to come up with banner improvements then go for it. It just needs the image, the words are part of the site.
Using this and Lou's later post we can look at something around making things more straight forward for new posters, especially with the new stations going live soon.

A bit more tolerance towards each other, including me and the modswould help too.

Tolerance towards the mods...well, let's face it, MOD..Geezer ain't been seen for years, Maaarn-o does his sterling work on FP, And we see Arthur Brutal rarely.

The MOD has not helped himself. He holds grudges and definitely pursues vendettas with people he does not like.
This is not just me talking. He does it to a group of posters.
If he just packed it in and moderated properly, nobody at all would have an issue with him, guaranteed.

I don't think anyone has an issue with moderating.People do have an issue with personal grudges clouding moderation decisions.

You'd have to have people who actually wanted to be a mod before that happened though.

The issue about vendettas is one that I don't think is even worth exploring to be honest. There can be different reading of incidents but ultimately if everybody just gets on here and shows a bit of tolerance, accepts that having an open, lightly moderated forum will throw up points of conflict that need a pragmatic reaction rather than posters swiping at each other across the forum for days on end then things will roll along much better.
If there wasn't so much between poster sniping then we could concentrate on some of the more insidious crap that pops up from time to time.

But then someone who someone else wants to be a mod but doesn't themselves want to be one is better?

Yeah, that seems a bit daft, you can't force someone to be a mod when they don't want to be one.

It's a thankless job. I think that there would literally be only three or four posters who would want to be a mod. And it's all academic anyway as mark would presumably have the casting vote on any new mods. If it doesn't add value, it's a non starter. Simples.

It's worth exploring if you're the victim of one though!!

I don't think you can realistically expect everyone to get on on here.
I get that there will be points of conflict, and that's fine. All I am asking is that I can be confident that the light moderation which is in place is carried out fairly and impartially.
That is the crux of the matter for most on here, I'd wager.

Doesn't work. Your interpretation on light moderation which is carried out fairly and impartially may differ from my own. It's not tangible, nor scientific how would you prove this? Better for us to try and get on with each other and let the mods/owner do their jobs. We all think we're victims if we're told to cut it out. We think we're being ostracised.

I'd just rather not have mods that use peoples IP addresses to score points, or post up "evidence" from many years ago that they've saved, or call posters "lying cunts" etc etc etc..

It's a moot point I guess as things will not change
