Quirky drinks and food you like

Post by kancutlawns »

I'm talking here about niche items which don't have the branded prestige of say Coca Cola, Maccie D's, Heinz Ketchup, Walls sausies or tampons. Rather, things like Sandwich spread, Toppers or Kellog's Pop Tarts. Things that aren't considered to be sexy or high profile enough and which you wouldn't broach in a dinner party in Pimlico with a visiting head of state and a coterie of upper class knobs from the British establishment.

Here goes....

Strange or maybe not you mentioned tampons, in quirky drinks and foods you like....

You mentioned Angel Delight which I hated as a kid, but loved Instant Whip, which in reality was the same product. A powder added to milk and whisked....

Cheap noodles. Not pot noodle's which are okay but not what I mean, and not exactly that cheap either. Im talking about the 20p/30p a pk ones and I can eat them by the bucketful.
I'm also gonna give tampons a miss though.

I lived on those el cheapo noodles in college. Tesco did a bacon flavour in their value range that tasted like firelighters. I used to eat firelighters when I was a kid. Not sure if that fits into kancut-o's definition of quirky, but then again, I'd rather eat firelighters than tampons

Tampons seem a little more palatable now.

Sorry didn't say peeled and thinly sliced banana

You can also fry the Banana a bit and sprinkle with sugar... That help Bas?

Tesco value noodles only a couple of years ago were 10p. I remember the Bacon flavour, bit grim but never wanted bacon flavoured noodles anyway. Tesco valuie noodles now at 25p. Local shop usually does four for £1. Always a fair snack to keep you going, or added to some decent meat and veg for something better.

Tampons, hmm. Nowt wrong with redwings as per, tampoms can be sexual, insertion and removal, pad is better with blood/lumps/clots. Err yeah. :?
Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.

Made by self - spelt, bulgar wheat and Wild rice. Mixed with sweet potatoes and finished off with a sauce made from sweet chilli, soy, sesame oil and lime juice. Great with fish and seafood.

To those who like cheap noodles, if you have a nearby Chinese supermarket or similar, do yourself a favour and get some proper noodles. They may look identical to the supermarket ones but they taste infinitely better.

Aye tis true. I lived with a china-man once and he always had the authentic gear. Just as cheap but ten times more flavorsome. The sachets of stuff were a key part of it I think. Three blocks of those cooked up lovely. Yum!

Some cafes in Belfast do Tayto Cheese and Onion in a Belfast Bap Its very popular.
Also popular over here is the Full House Soda. Thats sausages, fried egg, and bacon inbetween two halfs of a soda farl (either fresh, fried or toasted as you request). You can get a Super Full House which has a slice of tatey bread thrown in the middle too. Basicall an Ulster Fry sandwich.

I haven't seen Instant Whip for years, Seems to only be Angel Delight and supermarkets' own brand ones nowadays.

Got into eating Thai noodles from the local Chinese wholesalers and found them infinitely better than Super Noodles which provide a paltry level of powder.
