I went to dovedale today in the Peak District . Although it was busier than last time I went wasn't too packed and it was a nice sunny day. The path along the river was quite busy with dog walkers, but I crossed over the other side to Bunster hill which was more peaceful.

Sounds like a well organised USA tour you've got there zambo - was it one you put together yourself, or was it a tour operator?
We've been talking about doing a similar thing in a year or so.
Booked a Caribbean cruise for the beginning of next year, so might need a bit of time to refill the holiday jar.

Always go on the escorted tours with a knowledgeable tour manager. Reason we tour the US is to see as much and learn as much as poss. Pros and cons to these sort of tours but we reckon it's worth it. Loads of optional excursions and free time. You can be as sociable as you want with fellow tourists.Roy Twing wrote:Zambo wrote:Jack Daniels distillery today before hitting Nashville. Re: Holiday Thread
I've been mulling over new places to go in the States before flying on to Vegas again this year.
New York, even for four nights, is fucking extortionate. Thought about going to San Diego, flying from Edinburgh to save flights and hotel costs in Heathrow, but it's a near 8 hour flight from Newark to San Diego and that's after an 8 hour flight from Edinburgh and a three hour stopover in Newark.
We'll probably end up flying from Heathrow or Gatwick again, however.
We're now looking at Long Beach, California after seeing we could get a room on the Queen Mary hotel. I imagine that would be an experience.
Has anyone here ever been to Long Beach and, if so, would you recommend it?

Re: Holiday Thread
Hey, Shedboy. Was in NY for a week a couple of weeks back. Not overly extortionate, though Mrs Shedboy probably has better taste in hotels than me. A bed, telly and wifi and good to go.
Ol' Pet is surely the man to ask about SoCal. Vegas soon I hope, though maybe as per the California Zephyr east to west first. Too many ponderers.

Re: Holiday Thread
Carlos, we were looking at a couple of 3* hotels near Times Square and one off Broadway. The cost of each hotel for four nights was more than we'd be paying for eleven nights at the Luxor in Vegas.

Re: Holiday Thread
Blimey, Shedboy, you're right. Just looked on Booking.com, you can get a room at the Luxor for £28 and the 3* hotel I sayed in in NY is £67. Need to get to Vegas.
