Sorry about your loss Chris. It's like losing a family member. A dog's friendship is unconditional.

This is Archie, my family dog. He's five. A top boy.

Sorry to hear that, Chris.

Dogs are great.I am too feart to get another one. I'd love a Newfie, but they are expensive, heart problems often and don't live long and the fear of the day it goes as well.

Some top pics in here. The Zipster's dog looks terrific, bossing the the long-haul cabin crew look with that hot steamie in his mouth.

Yes I renamed the Frenchie Sid Hooch, as in Sid Vicious, he is a vicious little fucker and yes he is also aggressive.

Poor thing, today I think he has a ear infection, and he is very ill disciplined

Had to have my 14 year old Border Collie Max, put down yesterday.

He had been with us from 3 months, and been a great no brilliant family pet. Unfortunately over the last few weeks he had lost use of his back legs, and there was nothing the vets could do, other than give him painkillers ad infinitum.

The family didn't want him to suffer so with great regret, we made the decision.......

4:45pm yesterday was a sad day for the family, 7 of us were crammed in the vets to say goodbye.....my 3 eldest boys (22,18,16) me and my wife, even my mother and father in law insisted on saying goodbye to a great dog.

Don't know how to post photos, but will do so if I can convience one of the boys to show me when they come in.

RIP MAX.

For people who aren't Dog lovers, it is impossible to explain that you really are losing a member of the family.

Having a pet put down is the worse thing I've ever experienced. Been through it 3 times and it never gets easier.
Thought I was going to lose my terrier cross a couple of months ago when he started to get ill and behaving strangely, thankfully it turned out to be diabetes and he is almost back to his old self with medication. I've actually comissioned an artist to do his portrait so when he does eventually go I'll have a lovely reminder of him looking fit and happy and that is the memory I want to have of him.
A vet did offer some nice words when I had my last dog put down, its not the quantity of life, it's the quality and I really like that because I always get dogs that have been abused so taking an animal from an abusive home and then giving it a good few years of love and in return you have an excellent companion.

I really feel for all the people who have recently lost their pet.

Sorry to read that ChrisO

It's not a nice thing to do.

I have always tried to do it before their quality of life is too bad. I have relatives who hung on too long with the animal in pain / distress.

I had an old Labrador whose back legs went. Took her to the vets and held her while he did the deed, poor old girl needed two injections, the vet said despite her problems she had a very strong heart.

Almost as bad is leaving a pet behind, I had a beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback bitch. bright as a button and very brave. I had to leave her when I moved countries, she went to a good home but it was horrible doing it. She seemed to know I was up to something on the day and refused to get out of the car!

I seem to be the grim reaper of the family when it comes to our pets as I had our 18yr old terrier X put down earlier this year as well as all our previous animals. He had a great long life from being a rescue dog but the ending doesn't get any easier, buried near to my dad who was his original owner but for only a measly four months before passing in 1999. Brilliant family dog here at his busy energetic best and like most terriers a lovely little footballer... Maxildinho aka Max.
