Perhaps there should be a limit on the length of time someone can be a mod. 12 months, 18 months or maybe 2 years at most. You could then have a mod poll every 2 years, or something. Mods would no longer be appointed. Instead, they would be voted into the job. Anyone complains then too bad. Forum democracy, and all that.
