Manifestos

Post by mark »

I've not really seen much reference to party manifestos. Did any of them bother or are they all just admitting that they are documents laden with lies?

I've seen loads of promises from all parties, but nothing to say how they are going to achieve them. So I would say a load of lies, certainly if go by past experience.

Major party manifestos are not normally published until about 3 weeks before the election so we will have to hold our breath a while longer.

My, brother, knows, Karl Marx,
He met him eating mushrooms in the peoples park,
He said 'What do you think about my manifesto?'
'I like a manifesto, put it to the test-o.'

Took it straight down to meet the anarchist's party.
I met a groovy guy, he was arty farty,
He said 'I know a little latin man a cus man a kai'
I said 'I don't know what it means' he said 'neither do I'

Eat natural foods, bathe twice daily,
Fill your nostrils up with gravy.
Don't drink tea and don't drink coffee.
Cover your chin in yorkshire toffee.

Dancing in the disco, bumper to bumper
Wait a minute........where's me jumper?

Etc.

Fuck off Cameron.

I don't want to subsidise people buying their fucking council houses - they are already well off by having a place to rent cheap.

What about all the people struggling to pay private landlords because they can't scrape together a deposit or have done the decent thing bu getting married before having children, or having a job so therefore don't qualify for a council house.

What a cunt - the Tories have lost the fucking plot completely.

This is simply an attempt to buy votes so they can keep their jobs

Nothing more.

Fucking arseholes.

I am NOT voting for them - for the first time in my life.

All of the parties manifestos are an attempt to buy votes. They haven't got an earthly of keeping most of those promises. Manifestos should include objectives and a plan showing how they will achieve them, and a timescale for doing them. It should then be recorded when the objectives have been met, or if they failed and why. Then that should be made available to the public.

That is the sort of info people want before making up their minds who they will vote for. What you get every five years is a core of people voting Labour or Conservative because that is the way they have always voted.

The Tory efforts are incredible, after years of depicting Labour as profligate.

Osborne started it with the "pension reform", and now there's the very badly-conceived sale of social housing, the scrapping of income tax on savings, the promise to scrap inheritance tax on most estates....truly stupid.

Inheritance tax should be scrapped on ALL estates.

I have some sympathy with this viewpoint but I see no reason why beneficiaries of an estate should be able to able to inherit assets at probate value and dispose of them immediately with little or no tax consequences. Would you prefer an estate tax which exempted those assets on which no charge to capital gains tax would have arisen had a disposal taken place prior to death (e.g. the principal private residence).

That would certainly be preferable than what we have now, I'd include personal savings in that. And it should only be taxed at the rate of tax had they been disposed of CGT is currently only 18% whereas death duty is 40%, that's not right or fair.
