Anyone a fan?
Only really heard 'the hits' aka Downtown Train up until about 4-5 years ago, but been listening to Rain Dogs and Closing Time recently, and both are utterly fantastic.
It's quite hard to compare him to anything musically, but for musical addiction, I'd put him up there with Modest Mouse. Both are quite 'well, that was alright I think, but I dunno, not my thing' first listens to ''OMG! I need to see the concert' after the fourth listen.
He's also a pretty decent actor too.
Was he ever big in the UK? As in commercial success? And are they any other fans on this 'ere board.
Surely my old Alan Mullery mucker flogged a few bootleg CDs down Bromley way back in the day.

I thought he may be dead when I saw the headline.
Not a huge fan personally but he's made a few decent songs and he's got a cracking voice.

Modest Mouse are a bit of a strange comparison Kev but they've probably got a similar small but hardcore fan base among proper music fans in the UK.kevin04 wrote:Anyone a fan?

Re: Tom Waits
I think Tom Waits is a acquired taste. The voice is unusual so a lot of people would never listen to him. Personally, I do love Tom Waits when the mood is right. Especially Nighthawks at the Diner, Heart Attack and Vine and Heart of Saturday Night.

I remember his rendition of waltzing matilda on whistle test back in the day, and intended to look out for some of his other stuff.
Never got round to it.

They sound nothing a like, musically, but I meant in an acquired taste way.karljenk wrote:Modest Mouse are a bit of a strange comparison Kev but they've probably got a similar small but hardcore fan base among proper music fans in the UK.kevin04 wrote:Anyone a fan?

Tom Watt. Bog brushed, spotty, four eyed Gooner who used to present on Talk Radio over 12 years ago and spoke like Danny Dyer.finchman wrote:I thought he was shit in Eastenders, but liked his football documentries around Europes outposts.

Hope I don't fall in love with you is a fucking belter.
Quite dig his earlier stuff.
Must admit I haven't listened to him in ages.. Time to crack a bottle of Havana club and revisit I think.

Re: Tom Waits
He did a couple of albums for Island that were pretty good, and very melodic.
As did John Cale, now I think about it - very poppy they were.
