Where do I begin KCL?
The last 10 years has been a battle against joint deterioration.
My knees went and I had to give up a £40k a year coaching job.
I've regrouped with Goals and Wickets etc, done up and rented out my flat darn sarf and moved up norf.
But my knees have got worse (3 ops) and my right hip is going.
Nontheless, I keep the fight going.
Just hit 60 and I am working as hard and / or as smart as I can.
I do spinning 5 times a week (but at various levels of intensity to help exercise the joints and build some muscle but without aggravating everything) and various strength and stretch routines.
I am very careful on diet and don't drink anymore (gone off it actually).
I miss playing tennis very much (I can't even run 2 steps) and even going out is a problem (have to be able to sit down etc).
But before you ask, I'm not nearly bad enough for knee or hip replacement but in the sort of limbo area which many of my age and stage find themselves - treat the pain with painkillers, they tell you.
I keep an eye on the finances but I'm not pleading poverty - far from it - my flat in Wimbledon keeps going up in value despite crashes / Brexit etc. and at some point, I'll probably sell it and cash in but not yet. But again, like many in similar position, I am asset rich and cash poor or shall we say, not so rich.
In a way, I'm thankful that in my 30's and 40's, I lived abroad and did loads of travel, so my limited existence now is not as much a problem as it might be to others who didn't do all that stuff (in my Scotty Parker suits, I worked in London, Brighton, Bahrain, Zurich and Sydney) and travelled all over the US when I was going to the Tennis Fantasy Camp every October through the 90's / early 2000's.
PS Just eat some blueberries, raspberries and strawberries as a matter of fact.
