Fabric nightclub
Fabric nightclub in London has closed. It follows a number of other high profile clubs that have closed in recent times. It seems like youngsters today aren't into clubbing so much and house music has been in decline for a while. People seem to go out a lot later now and are more worried about posting pictures on social media , than going out and having a good time.i wondered if gods kitchen in Birmingham in Birmingham is still going.

Re: Fabric nightclub
This story shocked me. Apparently young people were going to these types of venues and taking drugs.
It's a good job they've nipped this in the bud.

I've got to agree with that to be fair. It sounds about right for today's money grabbing would be entrepreneurs. There's a certain mindset within this group that looks at every playing field and calculates how much they can make if they develop it.
But the need for housing really is this great when half a million houses need to be built year upon year just to accommodate a population they tell us needs to expand presumably at the rate it currently does.

I read that Chinatown in London may have to move as a lot of the business are struggling to pay the rents and business rates.the nightclub will be turned into luxury flats which will be bought by rich Russians or Chinese who then rent them out.

Your reading is selective. How could you not know about the property aspect.

I love the way these fuckwits are talking about grubby Entrepreneurs etc.
What the fuck did they think the nightclub was - some sort of charity?
It was a piece of real estate, bought by an entrepreneur with the express intention of relieving you of as much cash as it possibly could.

Um, that's missing the point a bit, really. Yes, nightclubs have to make money to thrive, but if you look at the best ones, they were created through a love of the genre, not to screw every person who turned up.colinthewarriormonkey wrote:I love the way these fuckwits are talking about grubby Entrepreneurs etc.

Hang on, your opening post was about clubs closing because da yoof don't like clubbing, now it's been pointed out to you this club's closing down because of new apartments going up on site, you've changed your tune. I want to know your views on Gods Kitchen.theleader82 wrote:I read that Chinatown in London may have to move as a lot of the business are struggling to pay the rents and business rates.the nightclub will be turned into luxury flats which will be bought by rich Russians or Chinese who then rent them out.

Was totally ambivalent about the issue until I read what Jack Monroe wrote. Now I'm absolutely thrilled.

Re: Fabric nightclub
Never went to Fabric and had no interest in going, but its closure isn't a good thing. London's cultural scene - particularly its live music venues and clubs - has taken a real hammering in recent years. I read around 50 per cent of live venues have been closed since 2008 - pretty staggering. Tastes change but Fabric was doing decent business as a destination club, similar to long gone venues like The Hacienda in Manchester where people would come from far and wide to do a night there.
I don't doubt the flats theories. Every venue in London is seemingly becoming 'luxury' flats. Bullshit.

London-centric bollocks
Great arts venue / nightclub in Glasgow shut down last year for similar reasons. Did it make the national news?

You're a quasi-autonomous nation, why would the English need to be made aware of the nightclub closing any more than one closing in Kurdish Iraq?shabbado wrote:London-centric bollocks

So the reporting of the Fabric closure isn't an example of the Lo don bias in the national media?subsub wrote:shabbado wrote:London-centric bollocks

What can you tell me about The Arches closing down last year? A venue that was every bit as important to the Glasgow arts and nightlife scene as Fabric is to Londons.
Still in lieu of any reasoned discussion a rolls eye smilies will suffice

Re: Fabric nightclub
It probably did make the national press. Did you check?
Edit: I think you'll find that the Arches was closed down by police due to various drug using instances.
It therefore won't hold as much affection or derive as much publicity as the Fabric which was considered a well loved institution which has been forced out of business because of the increasing gentrification in the UK's main centre. That's the way it is.

Fabric had it's license revoked because of at least two drugs related deaths on the premises in the last 6 months.
Exactly the same reason The Arches had it's licence revoked.
