British Gangland movies

Post by kancutlawns »

Not sure if I've described the genre correctly but watched Rise of the Footsoldier for the first time in years yesterday. Starting to watch Essex Boys the next couple of evenings as have an interest in the background into the Rettendon Murders.

Not seen the second movie of ROTF.

Any other recommended movies? Have to watch the whole of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Get Carter 1971 will always be No.1
Full of memorable lines.
"Eyes like pissholes in the snow"
" You're a big man, but you're out of shape"
"You don't give a man like Jack a drink in those piddling little glasses,...give him the bottle "
Boris " Do not look at what I am doing, Look how cute and adorable Dilyn is.....Look at Dilyn ! "

Performance - best of the lot
Sexy Beast
Villain (amusing for Richard Burton's terrible cockney accent, meant to be Ronnie Kray)
THE Long Good Friday
The British TV series Law and Order from the seventies - banned for years and still good.

Is Green Street any good? I know it's more about footy violence then the criminal underworld.

I have greatest respect for Rugby Union, they started it mid-way through the 19th century. Thankfully we grabbed it and turned it into a spectacle on 29th August 1895

If you like badly written, poorly acted camp rubbish, then yes.

Any decent documentaries or drama movies about footy violence from the 70s or 80s?

Probably not, but sometimes it's best to spell things out.

Hang on a minute - just because I allowed you to use my slogan in your signature, it doesn't follow that any Tom, Dick or Kankers can do the same...

I'm open minded, non discriminating and don't mind badly written, poorly acted camp rubbish from time to time. Quality is the focus but I take the rough with the smooth, then again quality is an individual preference and indefinable.
