If I hear the phrase 'Super Saturday' one more time I'm going to kick the old lady who lives at the end of my road. Do you want that BBC? eh? do ya? Hopefully now Mike Rutherford and Lauren Hill have not claimed Gold the phrase might be consigned to the dustbin o' history.
Desperately seeking solace from the multis.

I actually miss the Olden Days, when "we" won about 5 medals, tops. We win so many now that the highlights, and indeed the live coverage, is entirely filled with Our Boys and Girls.
I miss the obscure sports and the tiny teams that you only watched once every four years.

Then again that's tame compared to some of the "Irish sports related vidyas out there. Castletown Donkey Derby 1994 is my favourite:

As a general rule, the smaller and shittier the sport, the madder and more hysterical the bedwetter-type commentators.

That's excellent, and a little disturbing. Is that Henry Sellers back in his pomp? :)

One thing I noticed about the O'Donovan brothers' was the ''They're after closing down Skibereen''. I've only - until now - heard that choice of wording in Scotland ''You'll be after having your dinner'' etc same with folk up here say ''Waiting ON a bus'' whilst not being on the thing at all and waiting for it. Surely comes originally from Gaelic and a direct translation. Or maybe not, and we're all half-daft.

Yeah kev-o I believe that comes from Gaelic. Had a couple of classes on the history of the language way back in school and that was covered. Another example is "I do be..." eg "I do be rolling my eyes at this Olympic bullshit"

Sure we do be half daft too :)

Will Jonathan take the trip to the knackers' yard of talkSPORT to join former 5 Live stablemate Saggers - thus leaving the barn door open for the inevitable Aggers & Saggers pairing?

Whatever cunt* was in charge of the cameras in one of the BMX heats needs to be told that a head-on shot as they cross the line means you can't tell who won.

You knew I was referring to the men's event, then, despite "watching none of it" :-)

You could say that about anything, though, couldn't you? If you were an Adrian cuntalike.

Javelin ... people throwing sticks is an Olympic sport? I throw sticks to my dog, perhaps I should get a gold medal. 'Eads gone!
400m .. people running in a circle is an Olympic sport? They should just stay where they are and save all that time and effort. 'Eads gone!
Boxing .. people hitting each other is an Olympic sport? I see that all the time on the mean streets of Peterborough. 'Eads gone!

Finally, the crisis of faith himself Jonathan Edwards appears Christ-like at the Triathon fuckfest of the brotherly lottery love-in Brownlee fest. I think each medal cost about 7 million quid. £32 million for the rowing, £30 million for the cycling. Fucking hell, it's like East Germany without the gender questioning isn't it.

The US cycling team has one part-time coach, we have 30. That's fine, but I do wish the BBC would at least mention the fact we are winning because we are pumping shit-loads of lottery cash into it. It's no a criticism, I just want some fair-minded reporting once in a while on our national station.

Back to Edwards, he's freelance now at the BEEB, having taking the prime presenting slot at Eurosport at the next Olympics. Thank fuck I cannot afford Eurosport. Although, back in the day, it used to be a good station for non-shouty non jingoistic broadcasting. Something you could view with a spliff on the go.

PS. It's all very well and good Joe ignoring Inverdale, but can he please give him a swift upper-cut to his slack jaw?

Excellent stuff, Carc.

The BBC pretty much have ruined what has been excellent coverage with their sycophantic commentary. Of course Johnny Blighty didn't do any wrong if disqualified or in 4th place; the constant ''didn't we do well for a small country'' etc which is untrue, but nauseating. And that last point, failing to mention the massive funding that the rowing and cyclists receive - fair dues to them, they've done well, but GB are pretty much like the USA in basketball when it comes to cycling.

Boxing and cycling coverage excellent and interesting.

Swimming abysmal and excruciating.

Diving ditto.

Athletics dull and uninformative.

Jonathan Edwards - Alan Pardew lite.

Gymnastics slightly eccentric but not in a bad way.

Rugby and rowing - nauseating.

Hockey - well...
