Just been to the pictures to see Deepwater Horizon and thought it was great film. Mrs S was moved to tears; I believe it was down to it being a true story rather than wishing she hadn't gone to see it.

Sisters was alright. Though I quite fancy Tina Fey so that colours my judgement a bit and she did look rougher than a welders bench at times in it. But I still fancy her.

I quite like both of them, but the story sounded a bit off-putting.

Midnight Run (again)

Female ghostbusters. I couldn't get my head around the anger and abuse this film created when it was released. Then we watched the first 20 minutes and it all became clear.

Hunt For The Wilderpeople (2016) 7.5

Sam Neil and his wife live in a fairly dilapidated old shack in the sticks and take in a troublesome foster child from Auckland. Nope, not the emotional drama it sounds like, but a comedy about Neil and the young lad who go missing in the forest of what I think is northern NZ, and the police manhunt to find them. The film has some laugh out loud moments that the likes of Trainwreck failed to give with 1% of the budget. Very good, and having been to NZ, the characteristics of the authorities and people involved are not too far from reality.

Captain Fantastic (2016) 7.5

Viggo Mortensen plays a dad who's taken his kids out of the system and decided to home school and educate them in his own way involving hunting skills, and celebrating Noah Chomsky. You get the picture, quirky-indie-artyfart, but not as self indulgent as some of Wes Anderson's stuff. The story line does develop and there are some funny bits. A good ending, and a very nice feel-good film. Perfect timing too, just under 2hrs.

My Scientology Movie (2016) 5.5

I watched Going Clear last year and enjoyed it. I had no idea what to expect, but felt this was a bit all over the place - maybe this was what he was trying with it, trying to make a film and a documentary at the same time. I like most of Louis Threoux's stuff but at times it felt like he was over egging the pudding as there was nothing too cutting in here e.g if you've seen or read about Scientology, there's nothing too 'mad' in here regards the strange behavior of their members. The film is alright, but it gives you next to no information on the cult and drifts along without any real structure. The ending was that boring, I've forgotten what actually happened.
