Being Canadian 6/10

A documentary about a LA-based Canadian writer who makes a light-hearted road trip home and interviews lots of famous Canadians - Will Arnett, Dan Akyrod, Mike Myers, Seth Rogen and so on - about what it's like to be Canadian. Some nice scenery, and quirky, mildly amusing bits ; but seen better docs and a few OTT moments of attempting to be funny, but nice enough. Perfectly fine Sunday after a weekend of working film to watch, and short too, around 88mins.

I have greatest respect for Rugby Union, they started it mid-way through the 19th century. Thankfully we grabbed it and turned it into a spectacle on 29th August 1895

The invitation

Nice Jonestown kool aid type flick, similar to the sacrament. Good performance from the lead.

6/10

The first one was entertaining, but quite silly. Good fun though.

METRO MANILLA: Had it on my Sky catch-up for ages.
Really good fillum(subtitled) about a guy moving his family from the sticks to the big city and how he copes/ grows with it. Much better than I've made it sound.
Highly recommended. 9/10.

Had this on Sky+ but never got a chance to watch it. Then I cancelled Sky....

Will have to find myself a copy.
I might have done one - not sure but possible.

The Magnificent 7

I don't like remakes, but I took my boys along to see it because all they are interested in is CGI superhero blockbuster type guff. But having seen the original (several times) I knew it had a good story

So I told them we were going to see a film with absolutely no CGI and set about 150 years ago - cue grumbles.

Got to the cinema and they brightened up when they saw Chris Pratt was in it becuase they know him form the lego movie and Guardians of the Galaxy.

I wasn't expecting much, but what followed was one of the best films I've seen in years, it was fucking brilliant - my 10 year old was literally on the edge of his seat with his hand over his mouth at certain parts, my eldest was open mouthed and my youngest sat there desperate for a pee but wouldn't move.

When we came out my 10 year old said "Dad ...I thoroughly enjoyed that"

We were all blown away, a terrific film in every sense

Spoiler follows

What I really liked was that for the first time, they saw a film that didn't end up with everyone living happily ever after, they left actually being a bit shocked and saw that film and a good story can be very powerful. I think it's opened their minds to new things.

Seriously?

If so I will watch.

I like a lot of these animated films but I don't know if you are taking the piss with this one.
Watch
Well.

Liked the bit at the very end with the cat - that made Oi larf.

A lot of the live stuff has been cleaned up, i.e quietend the screaming kids down, and tbh they was a good group live, really tight considering the shit equipment they had,Harrison said when they played Shea stadium they had speakers built that was 100 watts

I concur, colin.
I was a bit wary given how much I love the original but, although it was never going to be a match for Yul Brynner et al, it certainly gave it a go. A good, old fashioned type of western that was, indeed, a terrific film.

And, Bas, I watched it at the pictures. :)
