White Christmas (1954) 7/10
I haven't seen this before, but fairly enjoyed it. I was under the impression that old flicks were full of over-acting, but certainly not this. Quite a few humorous moments and songs too. I know next to nothing about Crosby - apart from he was a good golfer and sang a few catchy, mostly Christmas songs - but he was a pretty good actor too.
It isn't very Christmassy either apart from the title, start and ending. Apparently the had to re-film the ending because the King and Queen of Greece were visiting the set, but Bing had skipped out to play golf.
Another interesting fact I found out in this film was "he's not in the country. He's in Alaska" Alaska didn't join the USA until 1959.

Hail Caesar
All over the place but I enjoyed it and it was gorgeous to look at. Especially Scarlett Johanson. I came away feeling better than before I watched it, and isnt that the point?
Best line, Josh Brolin as Eddie Mannix, head of a major movie studio in the early 50s goes to confession :
Mannix :"Forgive me father for I have sinned. I slapped a major movie star. I smacked him about quite a bit. "
Priest :" Welllll...... "
Oh and John Bluthal is in it!
John Bluthal of Spike Milligans Q series and 'Never Mind The Quality Feel The Width' fame, that John Bluthal.
I assumed he died decades ago.

Re: The Last Film You Watched (Part 3)
It is a curate's egg (whatever one of those is) of a film. Some of the scenes are great to watch - Scarlett as a mermaid, the marines homo-erotic bar-room dancing, the theological debate on the nature of the deity (yes, really) and Hobie Doyle, the singing cowboy. The communist sub-plot drags though. Still, well worth-watching if you like old Hollywood films.Basualdo wrote:Hail Caesar

Terrible. Unless the Coen Brother's were going beyond irony to make a film showcasing how self-indulgent Hollywood film-making can be by actually making a self-indulgent pretentious fuck-fest of self-indulgent film. If so, it's brilliant.Basualdo wrote:Hail Caesar

By your criteria it is brilliant. The scenes of films were mean't to show how overblown and self-indulgent and fake many Hollywood films of that era were.carcinogen wrote:Terrible. David Brent. Cringeworthy, by the numbers feature length The Office sequel. Could have been a two part TV special. The best parts are the songs.

Deadpool.
I heard it was a good superhero movie if, like me, you don't really like superhero movies. I heard right.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. It didn't stop taking the piss out of itself from the first to the post credit last scenes.
My favorite line:
Big Russian giant metal X Man fella - "Come, we will take you to meet Professor X."
Deadpool - "Which one, Stewart or McEvoy? Its confusing. Man, they've f**ked those timelines up."

Bridge of Spies 8/10
Well made Cold War drama which culminate in an exchange of prisoners between the US and the Soviet Union. Masterly performance as always by Tom Hanks and got to see scenes of Berlin with the wall, Checkpoint Charlie and road blocks.

That was shite that film. If your woman you mentioned is the blonde mental one then she just weirded me out...double of someone I know and was weird watching someone who looks like someone you know in a film.Basualdo wrote:Suicide Squad.
I only watched it to see Margot Robbie's cameltoe. Even that wasn't worth the effort.
I lasted an hour before switching off.
I can't get the point of fucking superhero movies. Theyre as pointless as musicals.
Hollywood needs to wise up with all these superhero films. Then again from a marketing point of view they make sense. Who else goes to the cinema these days to pay the prices outside of teenagers and dateless wonders.
Remakes/reboots are wick and all. The PC 7 reboot....lolz...even Denzil couldn't save that piece of shit.

Still watching actually - The Dam Busters.
Wing Commander's dog is called Nigger. You wouldn't get away with that now, no siree bob
In fact they changed it's name to Digger for the remake at the request of the screenwriter, Stephen Fry.
The actual name of the dog - Nigger. Racist cunt whoever called him that.
Let's not let historical accuracy get in the way of PCness
