*sigh*

It sounds like a vanity project. Gervais was in an unsuccessful band nearly 30 years ago, and yhis smacks of living out a fantasy.

The Office was brilliant. I hope this doesn't tarnish it.

But won't be going to see the film; David Brent was, if you like, the pivotal centre of the sitcom, initially, and if you run with the mockumentary theme, pushed himself to be such.

But the character of DB needed other strong characters to bounce off. Be it Gareth, his bosses or Tim.

And indeed the Tim and Dawn will they/wont they story arc to a certain extent took over, which apro po of nothing shows what a generous writer Gervais is.

A great sitcom has to have a great ending to draw a line, leave everyone satisfied, and move on; and the crimble specials delivered that.

David Brent, without the Wernham Hogg posse is a bit like Basil Fawlty without Sybil.
Don't mind any of the characters, even Brent but Gareth Keenan is a scrawny, humourless, bowl haircutted, wannabe prick who aside from Chris Finch was why Brent was such an insufferable nobend. A character who was really understated was that overweight mess who played the decks and was almost literally taken off the streets.

Finchy was great. Used to like Ralph Ineson until he cunted himself by making radio voiceovers for the Government for benefit fraud.

Crude, direct, nasty, a perve; won the WH quiz two years on the trot, and he managed to hurl a boot over the pub. The man's a legend.

Big Leeds fan too was Finchy. Also goaded Brent into revealing to a listening office what he wanted to do to members of The Corrs. Top man.

Lawnsy a serious question. Have you based your life on an amalgam of the characters featured in The Office?

Used to think he was quite funny when he used to have his 5 minute spot in the 11 o'clock show a few years back before he hit the big time. I'd not long left a job that was pretty similar to the office and he got it bang on tbf. Thought extras was just a vanity project for him to toady up to the players in Hollywood and you could see right through what he was aiming for but he was the media darling by then and was bulletproof.

He's turned himself into a hypocritical arsehole now though with his social media taunting of anyone who dares stand up to his smart arsed comments which is backed up by his arse licking followers who suck up to him begging for a like. Yet watch his reaction if anyone dares tell him that Derek was absolute shite or mock him when he's putting on his Twitter sad face when some fat yank has hunted down a wild animal.

Only he can be the one offended.

Anyone remember when he was forced to improvise at one of those Live Aid shows and completely died on his arse? Painful.

This is married life with children. You can do that single without having to dispose of the pot till tomorrow, a mardy missus and kids. Though as per always, strictly belly to hand to mouth for me.

Just back from the film.

I have to say I enjoyed it. Helped going with a fellow big Office fan so we laughed a lot. It's not brilliant, but has some very funny moments in it. I especially liked the receptionist, and his work mate Nigel. Lots of classic Brent 'cringe' moments and some over-egging of the pudding, but pretty much does a solid job and whilst it was nowhere near as good as the original Brent work, it's a decent job and I will probably buy it on DVD when out. Gervais can also pen some songs, a very talented musician but we all knew that with Spaceman Came Down, Oh La La etc from the series.

7/10
