New SIM card
does a new SIM card give you a new number? I thought the number came with the SIM card, or is it built into the handset itself? I dont want to change the phone, just the number.

So that's a 'don't know' then?
With respect, if you can't post a sensible reply to a question in the 'Technology' section where people post queries they would like a serious response to, why don't you just STFU.

That's what I thought, but when I put in the new card the phone number was the same as the old one, needless to,say registry was, as you would expect, empty. Why would the number be the same?

Re: New SIM card
Its definitely not, thats not possible, so either:
A) you have accidentally requested a replacement sim card with the same number, they cost about £20.
B)You're mistaking something to be telling you the phone number of the phone, possibly a contact?
Have you tried ringing the new sim card using your old number?

I didn't request a replacement, I got it from Amazon for the exhorbitant price of 1p there was some sort of message which came up when I put it in (can't remember what it was now) and I pressed 'OK', does the phone have some sort of memory which transferred the number to,the new card (daft question I know but I can't get my head around it)

Just put the sim card in your mobile and ring your old number from a landline.
