Well firstly, I find the idea of a refeee being awarded a trophy ridiculous. Officials should not be made the centre of attraction in this way. Most of them are already arrogant enough without sticking them on a pedestal. Clattenburg has even had a set of tattoos which refer to his illustrious career to date, it's all going to their heads.

Moreover, who decides who is the best referee? Ask players, managers, fans, retired refs etc. and you will get different answers. For me the best referees have always been the ones you don't notice.

I think currently both in this country and in Europe, the standard of reffing is at all time low, so this silly award is totally meaningless.
