Surprised no one's started a thread in this and I have to say that I've not read up about Gary Rowett's dismissal as Birmingham City's manager. Only taken my info from TalkSPORT - make of that what you will.
The owners have done what a lot of owners do by bringing in their own man. Big gamble and I'm sure there are many examples including the one across the city.
But Gianfranco Zola? What's he really done at managerial level? First RDM, then Zenga now Zola. Chinese owners in the West Mids like their Italians don't they but what exactly were the merits of getting rid of a manager who got the SHA to seventh in the league? Good go backwards and I think that Zola will fuck up a successful model. Not everyone lands on their feet as with Southampton who got rid of Nigel whathisname years ago and replaced him with a manager who took them into Europe.

Re: Gary Rowett
Zola fantastic player, poor manager
Rowett has done a great job managing Birmingham under difficult circumstances and will walk into the next championship vacancy.
Durham is a big fan Rowett being English and that and will take this apart ,failed Johnny Foreigner replacing bright young English manager.
For once he will be spot on. Danter will no doubt be asked for his opinion and will also be raging.

One of my favourite players but management is not his game
Management Record
2008–2010
West Ham United
2012–2013
Watford
2014–2015
Cagliari
2015–2016
Al-Arabi
2016–
Birmingham City
Failed at most of these and I wouldn't think Birmingham will be any different

Rowett has been stitched up. Great manager and I'm afraid Blues will now drop like a stone towards the foot of the division, where the current players ability puts them.

As a Blues supporter gutted for Rowett. More to this. For a start it looks like there was a disagreement about player recruitment in January, and I hope Rowett will speak up and say what the reasons were.
Yes, we've been lucky, we have played crap on several occasions this season and won, but you don't sack a manager who's team is more or less in a play-off position.
I think the decision will backfire spectacularly.

He did a lot more than most would in that situation. The whole of the backroom team have gone as well, so who is going to advise Zola, the tea lady?

Zola is on a hiding. Rowett was popular, so unless he keeps the balls in the air, the fans will be on his back early on.Fug1 wrote:Mad decision Zambo, and for Zola??
I think he may well get the team playing more attractively, but that aint no good if you are letting in.

£9 million for Savio (who??) Made 10 appearances with 0 goals; was traded for Da Costa (who??) He made 31 apps with 3 goals.
Along with such superstars as:-
Nouble
Daprela
Kovac
Diamanti
Franco
Benny McCarthy
Mido
Ilan.
Not exactly a glowing list.

Re: Gary Rowett
The question has been asked why he was selected, and all we've got back is that they liked his vision and enthusiasm. You need pedigree otherwise you are taking a massive chance going on just those two things. You need to have demonstrated to you that you are better than the previous manager, and I don't see how that can be done.

Re: Gary Rowett
Absolutely suicidal decision by cunts who know nothing about the game and went for a big name who probably had a mate in the game like Arry who gabbled in the owner's ear and was on a little earner to have Zola taken on. I like Rowett and hopefully, he'll find an owner in the league who will have some intelligence, foresight and loyalty for a decent manager who's made the best of what he's been given. Sadly in the Championship, the place is littered with cunts, with the exception of our great owner, obviously.

2-3 other clubs have came in for Rowett in the past year (Fulham being one, Derby/QPR/Villa also linked) and he's stayed loyal. Shocking decision in every way.kancutlawns wrote:Absolutely suicidal decision by cunts who know nothing about the game and went for a big name who probably had a mate in the game like Arry who gabbled in the owner's ear and was on a little earner to have Zola taken on. Zola was a great player but a crap manager and seems a total mercenary.

Interesting article in the Mirror. In most situations money is in there somewhere. Looks like the Chinese were pissed off with the way Rowett was behaving with contract offers.
