Only 7 men have ever won it. That number would be near enough double had it not been for Lord Philth.

He's won only 1 of the last 6, however. It's a different game now.

They are working through a series of videos from Worlds past... here are two of the most horrifying ever in my opinion, 12 years apart, much had changed, nothing had changed, classics:

I have greatest respect for Rugby Union, they started it mid-way through the 19th century. Thankfully we grabbed it and turned it into a spectacle on 29th August 1895

BETTING

This will all be william hill. They are title sponsors and that.

9/1 - Taylor champion. On the BBC thing in September nobody got anywhere near him, including MvG whom he beat twice. Taylor skipped the last TV ranking event to optimise his preparation for this. Private life settled, rested, fresh as a sexpest daisy. Think BBC. If that Taylor turns up, he wins #17. He can fluster MvG and have the world champ giggling again.

His draw largely accounts for his odds I think. He'll probably need to beat Barney, Lewis and MvG just to reach the final. He is still good enough to brush aside the best, one after another.

For what it's worth, I think we'll get down to a repeat of the 2015 final, this time with Taylor beating Anderson 7-3 or 7-4. I will be putting something on that 9/1. I think he's roughly of the opinion that this is his very best chance of ever winning it again. He's 56, you know. Don't think anybody else has title odds worth looking at.

Orrr...

Michael van Gerwen vs The Field - The Field is EVENS. That's very effectively a bet on the combined powers of Taylor, Anderson and Lewis, who have 20 world titles between them, including 7 of the last 8, to win a world title, plus Barney, Wright, Wade and all the rest. Double your money. That's incredible. MvG is greatness but nothing justifies those odds.

9/2 - 2nd Quarter of the draw to produce the champion - Taylor, Lewis and Barney are all in the 2nd quarter. 23 world titles between them. Better off backing Taylor alone probably.

11/10 - Zero 9-dart finishes. For novelty plumping you could do worse. There's only been one live on TV all season, I believe. Also zero on the streamed events. No-cunt can hit Double 12 for it. Wright is so convinced he can't that he's started going T15 D18 to wrap it up. Defeated by the dartboard. Attitude. Cunt.

World Youth Champ Aussie Corey Cadby is a possible sensation, and unfortunately nay surprisingly the bookies are onto him. He's fucking 1/12 to beat Sun Qiang in the Prelims, Best of 3 sets. Could be worth looking at an exact score bet, if you can find odds on Cadb-o winning 2-0. It's bound to happen.

Assuming he does win, he'll play Joe Cullen on Monday night. Cullen is better on the floor than on TV. Cadby is a big stage cunt already and will massively fancy that, especially having warmed up with a match on stage already on the night. The odds aren't up yet obviously but Cadby to beat Cullen will be worth a look. Cullen will presumably be favourite. He has never won a match at Ally Pally, 6/6 losses or something.

Could be RM's top tip this one, not glamorous odds admittedly but it looks safe...

11/10 on Wright to win the 4th quarter, that is to reach the semis. By far the weakest quarter of the draw - Wright and Wade are the big uns in that, followed by Michael Smith and Ian White, then Gerwyn Price and Mervyn King. Smith and White are good, but neither are in form that could trouble Wright. Price and King are in okay form but not in Wright's league at present.

Wright's high quality consistency is very unusual. He is genuine class and if he just brings his game, that quarter should be his and relatively comfortably. He doesn't do off-nights and he is a former finalist here.

The trickling inevitability horrors of Taylor closing in on another world title makes having money on that 9/1 a form of bloody therapy as much as anything. I won't stretch to a fiver though, maybe 90p. :) my lumps are small.

Yeah Evens on the field is tempting too. Hmmm.
