This tiresome twat is becoming increasingly annoying - some feat for a man who has already been an annoying wanker for his entire forty-four-year commentary career.

While commentating on Chelsea he gave a glimpse of the way he thinks about football. During one passage of superb play, he went off on a tangent about how difficult it was to keep track of the number of passes in a particular move - as if anyone gave a shit, or as if any normal person would be counting the passes while watching a football match.

Everything about this arsehole annoys me, from his horrible voice to his uptight nervous reaction to anything that he deems "not good for the game".

Plus, the only television footage of my favourite ever Palace moment is ruined by a particularly cuntish bit of commentary by this jibbering idiot.

He was a guest on Fantasy Football way back in the day and was totally bemused by it all.
He seemed to think it was a serious show and, perhaps unsurprisingly, did not seem to possess anything resembling a sense of humour.
I would not be at all surprised to find out that he was borderline Aspergers in some way.

Last week on MOTD it seemed to me as though he was 'commentating' from the highlights package he was watching from his living room. It didn't sound authentic or live at all, it was as if he'd watched the highlights a few times before, made notes, then did a 'live commentary' for the show. Something didn't sound right. Get the fucker off, or have guests that challenge his views and opinions.

If he does do some after game add ons, it's still awful, faux excitement and platitudes. If he does do it live, it's still awful, faux excitement and platitudes. Pension off the pensioner, he's already a laughing stock. Poor old Motty.

I remember that episode and I think you're right. They (not FFL) also did an evening with John Motson and it was as flat as a pancake.

But Barry Davis was a great commentator and preferred not to bleat on about everything in the game as, being a TV commentator, people could see it for themselves. Motson is semi in the same mold so there's still room for him compared to motormouths like Sam Matterface.

At the time I thought he had retired completely, until I heard him warbling away on MOTD a couple of months later.

I actually always preferred Barry Davies back in the day when they were competing to commentate in the big games.
Motson's completely out of touch now.
He needs to allow new talent to come through now. I listen to him on Five Live when discussing football issues and he is a miserable and irritable with the modern trends in football.

Can't remember where i heard it, but a while back a couple of blokes were on the same train as Motson. They called him Motty and asked him for an autograph. He told them that is name was Mr Moston, then basically told the pair of them to fuck off !
