The first rounds got underway last week with a big shock in the Europa League, FC College of Gibraltar knocked out an Armenian team and Connah's Quay of Wales went to the Norwegian powerhouse that is Stabaek and won 1-0.
Tonight, we have Celtic up against another Gibraltar team Red Imps FC - who knocked out the Estonian champs 3-2 on agg last week - whilst the two Irish sides Dundalk and Crusaders play tomorrow against FH of Iceland and FC Copenhagen.
Let the fun begin, and see most of you in 2017 - when the group stage is done and dusted or possibly late December when City or whoever goes crashing out in the group stages.

Neil Lennon Hibs new manager sent to the stand as Hibs go down 0-1 at home against Brondby.
Brondby scored after 23 seconds when keeper made a horrendous error. Lennon's first competitive game in charge

Not anymore. I think they lost the rights two or three years ago and BT Sport has them now.Bad Blue 2000 wrote:Do Channel 5 still have the rights to the Thursday Night Cup?

I still can't get over that Celtic result.
A team of part-timers from a non-sporting country that doesn't even have a professional league.
And don't get me started on the team from Gibralta.

Re: The UEFA Champions League & Europa League thread 2016-17
Brendan's got his win rate up to 50% already
Routine win and second half played like a friendly, but the team is not strong or good enough. Not sure how they'll do against the Kazakhs. Griffiths is at best an SPL player, he is yet to prove it against top clubs for his club or nation; hope I'm proved wrong,.
Dundalk go through on away goals against FH of Iceland. Excellent stuff from the home town team of Jim 'Blimey ' Corr and next up is BATE Borisov.
Ljubljana almost pulled off the mother of all comebacks. They were 4-0 down in the home leg to Trencin last week before pulling it back to 3-4. Then started tonight in similar style by going behind 2-0 before eventually winning 3-2 away, but lose out the away goals rule.

Dundalk play BATE Borisov of Belarus in the third qualifying round.
The two clubs met in last seasons competition, Dundalk losing narrowly 2-1 on agg.

Three Scottish teams in action tonight. Aberdeen take a 3-0 lead to Latvia and baring a disaster, should get through. Birikara come to the capital to face the Jam Tarts with the first leg 0-0 in Malta, and Hearts city neighbours and rivals Hibs are in Copenhagen to play Brondby - who are 1-0 up on aggregate from the first leg at Easter Road.
Connah's Quay are hosting Vojvodina from Serbia. The Welsh side are living the dream after their first round shock winner over Norwegian giants Stabaek. The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw, can the Welsh football revolution continue and the part-timers take another scalp?
Three Irish sides are playing tonight. The two from the League of Ireland - Cork and St Pat's - both knocked up impressive away draws and goals - St Pat's with Hacken and Cork in Minsk. Clifftonville from Northern Ireland were 2-0 up at home to APOEL Nicossia, but ended up losing 3-2, a tough ask for them to qualify having to score 2 goals over there.
Other non British and Irish games include College of Gibraltar who only lost 1-0 to AIK in Stockholm, and now have a return leg where they could prove another shock after knocking oot Tallinn last time around.
