Why were any of the players wearing poppies? It's another 10 days yet.

Apart from the fact that the actual day is 10 days away today why is it expected that a load of footballers wear specially made shirts? This wasn't needed or expected even 5 years ago.

The further away we get from WW1 and 2 the fucking stupider and more militant we seem to be getting.

Totally agree - this poppy fanaticism is completely against the whole tradition of the poppy anyway.

Ever since the Diana madness the emotional maniacs have been telling everyone what to do and how to react.

TV presenters will be like F1 drivers soon with poppies ribbons, brooches, wristbands and badges over their entire bodies.

Fucking grade one shithouse.
He doesn't hate the English.

I think he said he approves of remembering the dead of the world wars but objects to the poppy being extended to invlude other stuff - specifically Northern Ireland.

As far as I understand it that's his position, which is what you would expect from someone with his background.

if the teams are excluded from wearing poppies, England should put red petals around the star above their badge that represents winning the World Cup. Scotchland should also do this.

Why can't we just remember those who died in the same, civilised manner we used to, namely the Poppy Appeal, the Service of Remembrance on the Saturday before Remembrance Sunday and concluding with the very moving Cenotaph parade?

There's no need for this new, forced, almost insincere attitude to the Remembrance period.

And before people get on their high horse and accuse me of not appreciating the sacrifice of those died, I've bought a poppy every year since I was a nipper and I feel it's something we all should do, and none of the white poppy shite either, but I also feel we shouldn't be forcing people into buying and wearing one.

He is a dick.

But it is his choice when it comes to this. Freedom. Something that was fought for was it not?

And tired of this crap coming up every year. He has made it clear where he stands on this. People going on about it or the press gurning per year I really don't think is going to make him have a change of heart or mind here.

Did I mention that I think he is a dick?

I can see his point, wish we didn't have all this poppy nonsense but he's the only cunt who won't do it so either get injured next November or fuck off to another country.

I suppose you have to remember most people that lost there lives in conflict didn't really have a choice, they had to.

Having a choice of wearing a poppy or not should be exactly that, a choice.

It's concentrated on McClean because he's a Northern Irish boy, that clearly has roots in Eire; I happen to think he's misguided but I don't control him.

Although the poppy is a British Legion charity, I would like to think it remembers all of the fallen over a century, including those normal people that happened to fight on the other side.

It's only the calibre of cunt that happens to tell people like me, you and James McClean your fate that I would spit on; poppy or not.

What I mean is, would I fight for England? Yes.

Would I fight for the English/British government? No.

Above everything I'm Black Country.

Dunno about your backgrounds, but I'm a fiercly proud Englishman, but, I won't panda to the bunch of fucking charlatans that have done everything, forever, to fuck people like me and my ancestors up, let alone the Town I love and have left an area of over 1,000,000 on there knees.

Bollocks to them. (Poppy or not), no decision maker in this shithouse country has put there head on the chopping board, they'll leave it to scumbags like me and you, and give you fuck all when your too old and fucked to do their bidding.

Hence the British Legion, Help for Hero's blah blah.

Fuck 'em.

I support the Albion.

I'm quite embarrassed that we are now associated with shit football and a dis-respectful player; but, in a way, (good for him), he has his own mind and principles.

No we should have the poppy thing. Just because he doesn't want to join in or anyone else it shouldn't stop. Not for that at all. But I am for people who don't want to get involved not being shamed either by these means that the press are doing with Dickdoink McGee there. That's bullshit and all IMO.

The boy and me bought one each today. I see them for the World Wars. The first one was feed the rich to bury the poor IMO, and I feel for the poor lads who were used in that horrible waste. On all sides. The second was to fight evil. Although most got lost in evil along the way. Madness all round but it was to fight an evil at the start no doubt of that in my mind anyhow.

But freedom is freedom. I believe in it. And that is his freedom to choose not to wear a poppy for whatever reason that is his to believe in. That is his choice. I am grateful we still have a place for this. But I also worry that time and place will pass were we won't have such freedoms to express our personal freedoms and choices.

FIFA are utter cunts. It's not a political or religious symbol at all. They think the world's all fucking vanilla and as England and the sweaties are adamant they're going ahead with wearing embroidered poppies on Friday night, the Irish have attracted attention for wearing symbols remembering the hundredth anniversary of the Easter Rising as has Iran for having it's fans wearing black for a religious festival.

Would a points loss really matter as a sanction in any case? Scotland would fail to qualify for the tournament as they always do and England will still get through as winners by a country mile only to be fucking shit yet again after that.
